It is with a heart full of cherished memories and profound respect that we announce the peaceful passing of Ida Faye Gavin on November 7, 2025, at the age of 94. Born on December 1, 1930, in Inverness, Florida, Ida was a beacon of love and faith in the community she called home her entire life.
Ida was a devoted Christian, a woman whose unwavering belief in the Lord guided her through the many seasons of her life. She was a testament to the virtues of love, faithfulness, and spirited joy. Her life was a beautiful reflection of the scripture, embodying the love described in 1 Corinthians 13, patient, kind, and never failing.
Throughout her years, Ida's home in Inverness was a haven of warmth and laughter, with an open door to all who needed comfort or counsel. It was here that she and her beloved husband, the late Raymond C. Gavin, raised their sons, Raymond B. Gavin and John M. Gavin, instilling in them the values of compassion and integrity that she held so dear.
The matriarch of a large and loving family, Ida was blessed with five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, each of whom she adored with all her heart. Her legacy lives on in the lives of these precious ones, as they continue to walk in the faith and love she exemplified.
Ida's sisters Flo, Betty, Karen, Joyce, and her brother Terry, will remember her as the cornerstone of their family, a source of boundless love and wisdom. Her guidance was a compass for her siblings, a gentle reminder to lead lives of purpose and grace.
Ida's life was a journey marked by her steadfast faith and the joy of the Lord, which was indeed her strength. As we gather to celebrate her life, we are reminded of the impact she made on everyone she met. Ida's spirit, characterized by her loving nature and her faith-filled heart, will continue to inspire those who knew her.
As a Christian, Ida lived with the hope of eternal life, and it is with this same hope that we bid her farewell, confident that she is at peace in the loving embrace of her Creator. We take solace in the words of Revelation 21:4, "He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away."
We celebrate the life of Ida Faye Gavin, a woman of God, a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. Her life was a testament to the power of faith, the beauty of a life well-lived, and the joy that comes from loving others as Christ loves us. As we honor her memory, we are comforted by the knowledge that her spirit is now rejoicing in the presence of our Heavenly Father.
Ida's journey on earth has concluded, but her story continues in the hearts and lives of those she touched. Let us hold fast to the love she shared, the wisdom she imparted, and the example she set, as we carry her legacy forward with us until we meet again.
A Funeral Service will be held at the Inverness Chapel of Hooper Funeral Homes on Tuesday, November 18, 2025 at 11:00am. The family will receive friends one hour prior for visitation. Burial will follow directly after the service at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
