It is with broken hearts that we announce the sudden passing of John A. Sampedro of Citrus Hills. John spent his youth playing sports and after high school he entered Castle Heights Military Academy in Lebanon, TN. John attended Marine Corps for officer training, but during the training process his knee was severely damaged, and he received a medical discharge. He attended East Carolina University and married his beloved wife Celia. John and Celia had 2 kids, Edmund and Kathleen.
John and Celia moved to Citrus County from Manchester CT in 1994 upon his retirement from Aetna and they made many friends in Citrus Hills. Shortly after moving here, he volunteered at the Citrus Hills Activities Office and continued to assist with activities while also becoming one of the first volunteers as a Public Service Officer (PSO) for the Sheriff's Office and the Citrus County Library. Many years later when his legs could no longer walk upstairs to serve subpoenas, he reluctantly resigned from the Sheriff's Office and started volunteer work at Friends of Citrus while continuing as the longest serving volunteer at the library.
Services for John will be Monday July 15 at 10:00am, Hooper Funeral Homes 501 W. Main St., Inverness, FL 34450
On his birthday, August 19, have a slice of pecan pie in his remembrance.

We just saw John's obituary. My wife Kaye had been friends with John and Celia for 40 years since meeting them while living in Northern Virginia. On our annual Florida trips in February we always had lunch with John since Celia's passing.
