Madge Purcell Obituary

Madge D. Purcell, age 88, of Crystal River, FL, died Thursday, June 25, 2009, at home under the care of her family and Hernando-Pasco Hospice.
She was born in Ocklocknee, GA, to Gordan and Ada Davis on February 6, 1921. She came to Crystal River in 1933 from Archer, FL, and was a 1940 graduate of Crystal River High School. She was married 66 years to Knox Purcell until his death in 2006. They opened the first bait house here; it was known as Knox's Bait House for more than 20 years. They raised two children. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Crystal River and delivered meals on wheels for many years. During their retirement years, they liked to travel and fish. She loved to grow flowers and planted a big garden until she was 86.
She is survived by her son, John Kenneth Purcell (Lynda) of Murray, KY, and a daughter, Patricia Parrish (Nelson) of N. Palm Beach, FL; a sister, Louise Huddleston of Thomasville, GA; 2 grandchildren, David of Murray, KY, and Paula of Dade City, FL; and 3 great-grandsons.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at 2:00 PM from the Strickland Funeral Home Chapel in Crystal River with Rev. L.B. Thomason officiating. A visitation will be on Tuesday evening, June 30, 2009, from 4-6:00 PM. Interment will be at the Old Crystal River Cemetery. Strickland Funeral Home Crystal River, FL; (352) 795-2678.
