Matthew Samuel Malek passed away November 15, 2017 at home surrounded by family.
Matthew was born in Brooklyn, New York to Morris and Tillie Malek. Matthew is survived by his loving wife, Veronica Williamson Malek, daughter Jade Malek, his sons Matthew Samuel Malek, Jr. and Daniel Malek, and step-son Carter Williamson.
Matthew also leaves behind four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren: Skip Costantine, Joel Malek and his sons Parker and Andrew; Melissa Malek Hay, her daughter Avery and son Gavin; and his granddaughter, Molly Malek. Matthew predeceases his brothers Albert Malek and Ira Malek and is predeceased by his parents, Morris and Tillie Malek, his sisters Florence Shulman and Shirley Kaplan.
Matthew served with distinction as a United States Marine, participating in the Pacific Theatre (Guam and Marianna's Islands) during World War II and attained the rank of Corporal and Sergeant. Upon completion of his duties to the USMC, he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he achieved the rank of Master Sergeant, was honorably discharged in 1964, enlisted in the Air Force Reserves, and eventually retired in 1974. In all, Matthew gave thirty-one years combined service to the Marines and Air Force and was presented with the Good Conduct Medal and the Korean and United Nations Service Medals. During his time in the United States Military, Matthew was stationed at Bolling AFB in Washington DC, the Air Reserve Center in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, Chaumont AFB in France, Lakenheath AFB in England, Amarillo AFB,Texas, and the HQConAC in Denver, Colorado.
After his retirement from the USAF, Matthew owned and operated a small business in Tallahassee, Florida. Mathew lived with his wife, Veronica in many different places including Tallahassee, Homosassa Springs, Spring Hill and Crystal River, Florida. Matthew was a dedicated Master Mason and proud member of his lodge and as a Shriner. Matthew enjoyed dancing with his wife at the American Legion and Elks Lodges, traveling between their homes in New York and Florida, fishing, golfing, spending time with his dog, Harry and investing. Matthew also loved spending time with his family, friends, and grandchildren.
The family of Matthew Malek wishes to thank Hospice of Citrus County for their support and care. The family will hold a private service at a time and date to be determined.
