BACKS
Andrew "Andy", devoted son of Bill and Nancy Bissmeyer Backs, loving brother of David (Donna) Backs of Ponte Vedra FL, and Steven (Dana) Backs of Bloomington IN. Cherished uncle of Joey, Alex, Sean, Ted and Lucy. Nephew of Jack Backs, Tom (Bridget) Backs, Kathy (Bill) Castellini, Tom (Rose) Bissmeyer, and Dan (Chris) Bissmeyer. Also survived by many caring friends and relatives. Andy was very active with Elder High School before and after graduating, member of Elder High School class of 1979, public address announcer for many of Elder sporting events "Voice of Elder" and Mt. St. Joseph College sporting events and committed to the Price Hill Community and to St. Lawrence Church. Also very active with many community bands and civic orchestras. Died May 18, 2014 at the age of 52. Visitation Friday from 5 to 8 PM at Elder High School Schaeper Center, 4005 Glenway Ave, 45205. The Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday 10 AM at St. Lawrence Church, 3680 Warsaw Ave, 45205. Andy was a great guy and a great friend. I started announcing various Elder sports a number of years ago because Andy just didn't have time to do them all (nor could he be in two places simultaneously). He was always very supportive and helped me out in a lot of ways. I hope I can make him proud. You will be missed, Andy. My sincere condolences to the family.

We will truly miss Andy. He was such a great guy & a huge help at the St. Lawrence Festival. He was also the voice of the St. Lawrence Festival. His family is in our thoughts & prayers! God Bless!

I knew Andy for 13 years as the public address announcer for the College of Mount St Joseph basketball games. He was the best in the league at his position as well as an outstanding person. He will be sorely missed. My thoughts and prayers with his family and friends!

Condolences to my Class of '83 brother, Steve, and the entire Backs family. Andy was a class act. I have the greatest respect and admiration for his 35 years of dedication to the Elder Soccer program. I am sure I speak for all of us in the Elder Soccer fraternity, he will be missed.

My deep condolences. I was an ELder soccer player when Andy started announcing soccer games. He was a favorite of our family especially when he would say "header by Redder". Throughout the years, I developed a deep respect for Andy beyond the soccer announcing. He will be missed!

When you think of Elder soccer, players and coaches have come and gone, but the 1st name that comes to my mind with Elder soccer is Andy. Quite simply, Andy is a great guy and will be missed but not forgotten.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you right now, Aunt Nancy and Uncle Bill. Andy was so much fun and so thoughtful. I will never forget him taking the time to take this wide-eyed young cousin-in-law that he had just met off to see the bright lights of NYC at 1:30 am after arriving for Amy's wedding. He made a lasting and memorable first impression of my new cousin through marriage. Heaven is a brighter place, more musical place with him there.

Andy was such a gift to all he met. Elder football will never be the same without his voice. He was a great help with everything we did with the arts in Price Hill. We are praying for him and his family. We will miss you, Andy!

I'm quite certain he is already scheduling something, playing music or calling a game in Heaven.
Game nights at "the Pit" will just not be the same anymore. I'll miss his friendship and camaraderie. Thoughts and prayers for the family.

God Bless our nephew Andy Backs. He has found eternal peace and contentment in the great orchestra in Heaven. He wears his Elder purple shirt along with his Red's baseball cap as they play for the throngs at Crosley Field in the sky. May God hold you close, may you watch over family and friends, and when God choses to call us home, let Andy be the announcer that calls our name and number. We will always love and remember Andy. Andy's voice and presence has been a blessing to the College of Mount St. Joseph for about 20 years as the public address announcer for home athletics events. He was a great humanitarian and will be missed by our community. God's grace and blessing to his family and friends.
