Brian Smith Obituary

Brian G. Smith

- - Brian Gardiner Smith, 61, beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, nephew and friend, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, October 16, 2018.

Brian was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on February 13, 1957, to the late Donald and Patricia Smith. He was the youngest of their three children. Brian grew up in Wyoming, Ohio, where he excelled in sports, choir and was a friend to all.

On March 13, 1980, Brian married his high school sweetheart, Carrie (Johnson) in Cincinnati. They built a life together based upon their love and friendship and soon added two beautiful children to their family.

The love Brian had for his family - his wife, children and four grandchildren - knew no bounds. He soaked up every moment spent with them; an unparalleled family man. Brian's extended family and friends knew "Smitty" would always bring a warm smile and loud laugh to shared dinners, golf games and visits. He was patient and kind, with a compassionate heart and true appreciation for life. Brian's example taught us about family, friendship and love. He will remain in our hearts forever.

Brian is survived by his wife, Carrie Smith (Johnson); their two children Christie Madsen (Bill) of Arlington Heights, IL, and Scott Smith (Corey) of Wyoming, OH; two sisters, Sally Otten of Charlotte, NC, and Cindy Burt (John) of Boca Raton, FL; four grandchildren, Charlie and Elle Madsen and Canyon and Shadow Smith; aunt Ellie Graham; step-mother Nancy Smith; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Brian's life will be held on Sunday, November 4 at 2pm at the Pendery Center for the Arts, in Wyoming, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Wyoming School Foundation to benefit the future indoor athletic facility at Wyoming High School.

I picked Scott up for kindergarten on his first day and Brian jumped on the bus and rode the whole route with me! Not many people brave enough to do that. ❤

So sorry to hear of Brian's passing. I'll have to check old class pictures, but I think we may have started in kindergarten together and went all the way through Wyoming until graduation. He was really a fine guy who will be missed. Condolences to Carrie and the family.

I got to know Brian as we sat in my office in a car dealership and discussed work, but mostly golf. He was a great listener, story teller, but as I quickly learned, a really good guy. I'm so sorry for your loss. I know the great memories Brian left will help you through the difficult periods ahead.

Carrie,
Jim and I loved Brian like a son. He told us that all he wanted out of life was Carrie, two children and a station wagon. He was blessed. He was a very special man. Fondly, Thelma Jonson

Dear Carrie and Family,
We are so sorry to hear of Brian's passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you. I will always remember the great times and laughs we had together particularly senior year with Mark Fuller, Chuck Wharton, and George Johnson as we were all part of that year's May Fete Court. Forever "May Kings"... We laughed again at our 30th till wee hours of the morning on your patio looking out over the golf course. Brian was a great friend to all, and loved by all that were lucky enough to know him. We will all miss him.
