Carl Sedacca Obituary

Dr. Carl Meyer Sedacca

Cincinnati - For Dr. Carl Meyer Sedacca, each day was an opportunity for discovery. He was a devoted student of the mysteries of medicine and life. His studies ended on December 19, 2018, several days shy of his 90th birthday. Dr. Sedacca was born on Christmas eve, 1928. His 4 sisters were much older, so he spent his childhood reading or playing with neighborhood children. Thanks to the Korean War GI Bill, where he was in the Signal Corp, he attended medical school at the University of Cincinnati. As a resident, he was mentored by several of the greatest world famous doctors practicing at that time. Dr. Sedacca was influenced especially in his early training by Dr. Leon Schiff, a world renowned teacher of gastroenterology. In the early 60's, Dr. Sedacca brought the first fiberoptic endoscopy to this area. He would scope patients in a closet he had turned into a makeshift endoscopy room. During residency, he married the love of his life, Audrey Fix and they lived on the family compound where he became enamored of life in the country, trees, birds, the land. He taught himself all he could and very often took his children and grandchildren into the woods, down to the ponds, out west to the mountains, hunting in Africa and often going to the Nature Center. He was an avid hunter, and cherished the comraderie of his hunt club pals, who continued to spend time with him, even after his hunting days were over. Dr. Sedacca truly cared for his patients and his nursing staff, spending as much time with them as with his family. He made house calls carrying penicillin, morphine and syringes in his leather bag. He equipped a room in his office to be the first emergency room in Clermont County. On his 80th birthday, he did several colonoscopes and retired. He was also very philanthropic and gave generously to the arts and many other foundations. Above all, he cherished family, sadly predeceased by his beloved daughter Jana. He is survived by his wife, four children, their spouses and by his 14 grandchildren and one great grandchild. His family invites all who wish to celebrate his remarkable life to the Cincinnati Country Club, February 3, 2019 at 11:00 AM. Memorials may be directed to the Beechwood Home or to the Nature Center. Dr Sedacca was responsible for saving my dad's life in the early 1980's. I can't say enough about him. He would always ask about my parents when I would see him at work at Bethesda North. My deepest condolences to the Sedacca family.
