I am late to receive this news, so my grief is fresh all these years later. I was a student of Dr. Hewan´s in the late 90s and he made a lasting impression upon me. He challenged his students to reach their full potential and his respect, once earned, was real. When my husband died a few years later, Dr. Hewan was there to offer support. He was a king among men.
My condolences,
Teresa Halcomb Miller

My brother in the struggle for liberation...Dr Clinton Hewan..When I arrived at NKU in 1993 to serve as Dean of African American Students..it was Dr Hewan and four other members of the Black Faculty and Staff Association who always had my back.. who served as mentors for our students and always made time to assist them to ensure their academic and social success. He was never afraid to speak out and taught students to not be afraid to use their voice. This man... Dr Clinton Hewan..became the example of MANHOOD..he became of father to those students who had none...and a brother and friend to us all. My tenure at NKU was greatly enriched by being in the presence of greatness..Clinton...may the Ancestors kiss your eyelids and welcome you with open arms as you take your rightful place among the Council of the Ancestors..where you will be even more powerful than in your physical form...and may your spirit continue to shine bright in all of the lives you have touched. The family of Clinton..I know you are proud of all he stood for...and I pray for your peace...and please..never let his legacy die...continue to call his name and tell his story..so that the seeds of Hewan generations to come..will know they come from greatness.

I imagine Clinton is in Heaven with his buddy Al Pinelo sitting on a deck and giving Al updates on family and politics.

I was honored to work with Dr. Hewan in the Institute for Freedom Studies at NKU. That he and Dr. Pinelo were such fast friends was no surprise--I see them as twin beacons who voiced their truths with courage but also with such generosity of spirit in the hope of making our community and society more just and more compassionate. My deepest sympathy to the family.

I learned of Clinton's passing today and was saddened by the news. I met him when I was a junior faculty member at NKU and he was always good and kind to me. We got to know each other well on a Norse Leadership Retreat and then we always respected one another. He built into me early on and I am grateful. I've moved on and am now a dean.
I don't know his family but have heard about them for years. I know they know this but he adored them and was so proud of them. I thank them for sharing him w me. He was a good soul.
All the best, Cady Short-Thompson

When I was going through tough times, Clinton listened to it all then said "Sometimes Life throws you curves" Years later I understood what he meant. Life also throws you soft balls so keep on going. He was more then a friend. He was in many ways my mentor. I loved him.

Dr. Hewan showed us as young African American men that we did have a voice in how we were treated and that we could be respected for our intelligence.
Thanks,
Dr Hewan

There were few educators like Dr. Hewan brave and courageous. Dr. Hewan was a professional and a scholar. He also supported students in the quest for achieving an equal educational opportunity. He was a great role model who only expected the best from his students. He challenged you to become a better student and person. RIP. You will be greatly missed but truly remembered for all you did.
