David James is and still is one of the most influential people i have ever met in my life. He always found a way to make me laugh and feel good about life. He was just a cool person to have around. Whenever I played against him in football he would always beat us and he would tell his team that hard work would take them to the top. I love you David.

David was the best of the best. He was such a kind and funny guy. I am heartbroken to learn of his loss. I worked with David for 14 years at Harte-Hanks. He always found a way to make me smile or laugh. Heaven gained another angel. Ann and family, my prayers are with you.

I'm truly sorry for your loss. David worked for me for a period of time and was magnificent. He was honest, straightforward, hard working, and customer focused. One of the most reliable people I've worked with. Had a great sense of humor and wit. Truly a wonderful colleague.

I am so very sorry to hear of his passing. I worked with him at HH over a decade ago. While we primarily discussed "work stuff", it was our same sense of humor, difficult clients and shared love of sports that always had us laughing at client events and sales meetings. He was a class act. My prayers to his family...he would always talk about how much he missed you guys when he was away from home on business.

I knew David for over 30 years, with most of them as a co-worker at Harte-Hanks. David was a pleasure to work with because he was dedicated, helpful, honest, very knowledgeable and humble, and a great story teller who rarely missed the humor of life. He was a good friend and great example of a loving husband and dad. His infectious smile was always brightest when he was with Ann and the boys. I was honored to be able to talk with the boys at and after the visitation; several of us old HH folks agreed that Ann and David have prepared their sons to be pillars in their community, just like dad. Prayers for the extended James family and many friends, families and players that were blessed by knowing David over the years. Miss you Smokey!

Ann, Ryan, Christopher and Andrew, we would like to extend our condolences. It was a great pleasure to know David and your family during our OLL days. We appreciate all he did for OLL football. May God grant you his peace in your time of sorrow.

So sorry to hear of Davids passing. To suggest that he was merely a great guy is a huge understatement. David always had his priorities right. He was incredibly committed to his profession but even more so committed to his family. I enjoyed working with David for many years at Harte-Hanks. There was never a question when it came to David and the "cut above" that was always his standard. Prayers for his family.

Fond memories of playing for DJ as an OLL Tiger. He was a teacher and a mentor of impressionable young kids. What a stalwart to learn from - follow and admire! Not a kink in his armor. He has left a legacy that will live on forever in the lives of his players as we all strive to be the man that he was on this earth. Honest, Smart, Kind, Spiritual, Strong, Fun, Devoted, Loyal!

As a teammate, friend, and a person there were none better than #62. I still remember some of Dan's stories from his NFL days while we were at UT. We were blessed by DJ and his family, Ann, may God comfort you and the boys.

Words cannot express the loss that we are experiencing. A young man like this comes along once in a lifetime. A great son, husband, father, mentor and friend. I am heartbroken that he is gone and I would only see David maybe twice a year these days.

To Ann and the boys, his wonderful Mother and siblings, my deepest sympathy and have faith that he and Danny are together and having the longest hug imaginable. That's what keeps us going.

I can't even begin to thank you for everything you have done for me, Renea, our sons, and our entire family. You were so many things...son, brother, husband, father, uncle, cousin, friend...and one of the best teachers this world has ever seen. Talking to you was one of the great joys in life because there was always some sort of lesson or point you wanted to convey--on the field or off. I witnessed it playing for you, and even better, saw it when you were with my sons. The thousands of young men you have coached are better people because of their time with you. Ann said it best---people gravitated to you. People wanted to be everything you were to them...never have I witnessed anything like this. It is something that makes it so special to bear your last name. And you have left behind three shining examples of how great of a man you were...you and Ann have raised sons you were so, so proud of. Even though we weren't ready to let you go, your time here was worth every second of knowing you and sharing your name.
I imagine where you are right now looks a lot like the table on Rolling Ridge. Ellie, Uncle Dan, Dakota, Matthew...pull up a chair. It's gonna be a late one!

I'm so sad to learn of Dave's passing.
My thoughts and prayers are with his entire family.
David and I spent many hours driving together from the Westside to Knoxville while attending UT. I will always remember his thought provoking conversations.
A great man who will be great missed, but not forgotten.

I am glad to have known DJ while at Tennessee. Have great memories of our time and experiences, as he was just a few months older than I. Watched as he ran proudly through "the T" with great friend Glenn Streno at the Alabama game this season. My thoughts and prayers are with his family as we remember David.

I have one great memory of David, playing AA baseball against him. I was catching, he was on third, and took a big lead after the pitch. I threw down to third to pick off, but was so big, the ball hit him square in the back. He made it back safely to third, turned and said, "you lead off next inning Joe". David was putching that day! #hedidntbeanme Rest in Peace big man. -Joe

I haven't worked at HH in 5 years but I really enjoyed working with David at the Cincinnati office as well as a brief stint on the BBB team. He always had my back at work with the exception of the time I decided to play kick ball at the company picnic in flip flops. He was a great person, my thoughts are with his family.

David and I became friends and teammates in 1981 when I was a freshman at UT. He was always a voice of reason and sensibility when many of us needed that. Throughout our time at UT and for all these years afterwards I have always admired DJ for his work ethic , integrity and his devotion to his friends and family. Lisa and I asked DJ to be the godfather to our son and he took that responsibility to heart sending birthday cards, and always inquiring how Cam was doing.. Even while he was sick David would turn the conversation away from his issues and want to discuss Cam. Lisa and I want to send our deepest condolences to Ann, the boys and the entire James family. Please take comfort in knowing DJ was loved by many people.

I worked at Harte-Hanks with David for 30 years, not enough words to describe him, he was kind, funny, hard working, great husband, involved loving Dad, co-worker and friend to all. He will be missed, but not forgotten. May God Bless his family, and help them with their grief, today and for all the days to come.

To the David James family, I am a football official in the GCYO for the past 30 yrs and knew Dave. I had a lot of respect for him as an honorable man & football coach. I saw a man who respected his authority as a coach and I could tell he loved what he did. He was one of the few coaches in the league that coached the kids how to respect the game and officials. All of us officials loved working his games. Dave will be missed by all of us who knew him and I am so sorry for your loss. May God bless his family.

I met David on my first day at Harte Hanks and we worked together for 22 years. We would often share stories about our sons. What I most admired about David was his love of family. I was blessed with his friendship as were all who knew him.

David and I worked together for many years... David as a representative of Harte-Hanks, and I in the advertising department at Lowe's. David was always straightforward and honest in our business relationship and exemplified every good trait of a great salesperson... even when the truth was not in his best business interest. I also had the pleasure of assigning myself to his foursome in our annual charity golf tournament for many years. He was such a great guy... telling stories about his sons athletic achievements, his love for his wife and the pride he had in UT. My prayers for the family in their loss of such a wonderful and classy dad and husband.

It's another sad day for us Vols, as we lost another brother. David was a few years ahead of me at UT, but I will always remember his kindness to this young Vol, and his wonderful countenance, and leadership with friends, students, and teammates. My heart goes out to Ann, and the boys who while mourning their father will get more opportunities to hear how incredible he was, and see the impact he had on so many. Take your rest, DJ...we thank you for all that you have given to us, and to this world.

Over the many years of working with David at Harte Hanks it has just been in the last two that I've grown to truly understand, respect and admire the leader and caring person that he was. Through much patience, he taught me the value of hard work, dedication and persistence and challenged me daily to become better. I thank him for that and will forever miss his humor - as he would say "good deal" - cool beans back at ya, David James!

David James was the epitome of integrity. I've known David for nearly 40 years and tried to be as good a friend, father, husband and person as David. Although I failed, I know I am a better man because of our friendship. My heart aches for Ann, Ryan, Chris, Andy, and the entire James family. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

There are two things I always remember about David. When my oldest son was in grade school some boy was picking on him. David told the kid if you pick on little Seiler you pick on me. He also told me since my son, Mike, was the long snapper for Elder that he never would want a long snapper from any team to do badly because he always thought of Mike. Those are two of many things that made me remember David fondly. I am praying for his wonderful family. I have known Carole for a long time and she is a great lady. I bet Dan and David are tossing a football in heaven
