One of my favorite singers. I wrote in his name to vote for him in the annual Playboy Poll back in the 60's and 70's.

First time I've done this or been invited to by friends of vocal group harmony. Would have loved to have met Herman. Always knew him by "Junior." Clearly, a wonderful talent. Sang, wrote and arranged. Thank you Herman Denby for the pleasure of your company.

I cannot estimate how many hours I have listened to and enjoyed "Junior's" beautiful voice especially on Dearest. The heavenly choir now has it's lead singer.

Thanks for the music. You and your group the Swallows paved the way for so many R&B vocal groups and were so far ahead of the music back in the day. You were a great writer and singer and one of my favorites. Saw you at UGHA in New Jersey on your return and you thrilled the crowd. Have every one of your records. Your name and the Swallows will be remembered forever. A wonderful man. RIP my friend. John Rozz from Connecticut

To our friends and fans-
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of one of the two surviving founding members of our group, Herman "Junior" Denby at the age of 82 in Ohio on July 14, 2013. Although he only reunited with us on stage briefly in 1983 and at the United in Group Harmony Association Hall of Fame show in 1994, his talents as a songwriter and performer had and will continue to have a profound effect on fans of rhythm and blues vocal group harmony music. To his four children, four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and all of his fans, we send our sincere condolences.
Beside you always -

Denby Family, Herman Denby's music was in the vanguard of popular music that resounded around the world. "Tell Me Why" is a true pop classic and has brought pleasure to so many people. I know that he will be "Beside You" all, and the rest of us as long as people enjoy great music. I know he is already singing with all the other "Greats' in that choir in the sky. His music will live forever. David (England)

Junior had a very memorable voice similar to Charles Brown. He will be greatly missed! I remember going over to his place in Baltimore; I played guitar while he sang an Xmas song he wrote. R.I.P.

What a shock!!!
I used to transcribe the music Herman wrote into lead sheets. Was so proud when he made it with the Ink Spots!!!
He was a wonderful fellow!!

Daddy there are no words to express the unconditional love I have for you. The definition of a father, should have your picture following in a Webster Dictionary. I am so blessed to have had a father to show me what love truly is. How to receive it, and how to give it. Daddy you have given me so many beautiful memories to cherish. From being a little girl, taking a walk in the park. Picking up beautiful fall leaves for the first time. Asking you..."what are these daddy?" And you sitting me on your lap, to explain to me what they were, and the many different colors of fall. And memories of you teaching me how to ride my first tricycle. Or you and I sitting in front of the t.v watching Sesame Street, and The Jackson Five show, filling ourselves up with Hershey bars and fresh fruit.:) But the most memorable memory I will have is watching you play your guitar, singing to me and Cynthia, while I'm shaking the tambourine...lol. These memories will keep me smiling and praising God for blessing me with such a wonderful father! So, I will say "farewell daddy" for now, until we cross paths again. Loving you always..
