I would like to thank everyone for all the kind things you are saying about my Dad, Smitty. He was the best father anyone could ever have. And truly one of a kind in the best way. He had a good long life.
He told me he thought it was great that we could share our golden years together. Then laughed, of course! We were blessed to have him past 89.

Dear Schmid Family, While we didn't grow up in CNE we've been neighbors for over 20 years, and your Dad was always one of the friendliest faces in town. We'll miss seeing him on his bike, his scooter, and in his car heading to take Maggie to the park. We will be praying for him and his family.
Sincere condolences, Kevin & Lisa Weber & family.

Smitty drove me on the school bus during all my years at CNE. He drove my grandmother, Mrs. Ellen Craver, to work while she taught at Owensville Elementary. He drove my father when he was in high school. Many girls remember confiding in their best friend when they were very young about their school days and crushes and the like. I was very shy and didn't have a lot of friends then, so I talked to Smitty. He always listened. He always seemed to care. He was always happy to see me in the morning and wished me well when he dropped me off in the afternoons. Knowing that there were good people in the world like Smitty helped make me the person I am today. Blessings and prayers for his family. 89 years old. What a wonderful life.
