James Buescher Obituary

James D. Buescher

West Lafayette - James D. Buescher (Jim) of West Lafayette, IN and Scottsdale AZ, 81, passed away on Sunday, June 27, 2021, in West Lafayette, IN.

He was born April 4, 1940 in Cincinnati, OH, the oldest of three siblings, to the late Edwin and Marjo (Schmidter) Buescher. Jim's marriage to his late wife, Mary Beth (Merkel) Buescher took place on August 21, 1965 in Cincinnati. They enjoyed over 49 loving years together until her death in 2014 after a long illness. On December 27, 2017, Jim and fellow long-term caregiver Kristin (Andrews) Weidenaar exchanged rings and vows to formalize their union and celebration of their new life together. Their union brought them great joy and comfort. She survives.

Jim was a graduate of St. Xavier High School in Cincinnati and the University of Cincinnati. After Officer Candidate School, he was on active duty (1964-69) as a Naval officer serving on the USS Intrepid (CVS-11) off Vietnam and then on the NROTC faculty at Vanderbilt University. In 1969 he began a 30-year career with the Aluminum Company of America (Alcoa) primarily in sales and marketing positions. Frequent relocations brought many new friends and exposure to interesting places. He retired in 2000 and remained in West Lafayette. He treasured his family and friends near and far.

He is survived by his daughter, Sarah Buescher and spouse Peter Cullen, of Washington DC, his brother, Jack Buescher and spouse Sue, of Glendale OH, his brother in-law, Jerry Kirschner, his late wife's brothers, Jack, Jim, and Jerry, their spouses, and many nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his sister, Judy (Buescher) Kirschner.
