Jeffrey Swartout Obituary

Jeffrey Charles Swartout (Jeff)

Cincinnati - Jeffrey Charles Swartout (Jeff) died peacefully on January 26, 2020, just 5 days short of his 73rd birthday. He was surrounded by his loved ones, wife Linda Swartout, children Becky and Shaun Litchholt and Sara Swartout, and niece Diane Mahlman. He is also survived by sisters Judi Martin, Kathy (Stan) Wolcott, and Heather Roman, step-siblings Muff Sloan, Frank Reed, and Jan Hanks, and many nieces and nephews.

Jeff was a competitive runner, golfer, and bicyclist, and an accomplished pianist. He served in the U.S. Navy in Vietnam. Jeff was a toxicologist for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for more than 30 years and received many awards, including the EPA's highest honor, the Distinguished Career Service Award. He was a member of Queen City Wheels and the Unofficial Oxford Cycling Club. He was a Gold Medalist at the Senior Olympics in 2017, and in 2018, he became the National Champion for his age group at the U.S.A. Cycling Masters Time Trial Championships.

Details of memorial activities, planned for early May, will be announced when available. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (pancan.org), or Hospice of Cincinnati.

Jeff and I used to exchange humor and I always had a good laugh with him. He will be missed. Condolences to his family.

I'm so sorry. I worked at EPA with Jeff but I only saw him usually in the morning in the cafeteria. He always said "Hello Jane" or good morning but I could tell he was a kind man and reminded me of my Father. In reading his obituary I see that he was in the Navy and was in Vietnam. I had no idea he was sick and I'm shocked and so upset for his family. And that I will no longer get to see his kind face in passing during my work week. I wish I would have taken the time to talk to him instead of just small talk as my Father was also in the Navy and served in Vietnam. To his wife and daughters I am so sorry for your loss. He will be very missed. He already is.
