John C. Holmes, M.D., age 87, passed away on Saturday, October 17, 2015. John graduated from Bellevue High School in 1946. He then went on to the University of Cincinnati and received his under graduate in 1950. From there, he attended medical school and graduated from the University Of Cincinnati College of Medicine in 1956. John served his internship at Saint Mary Hospital in Cincinnati between 1956 and 1957. After completing his internship, he served his residence at Cincinnati General Hospital from 1957 to 1959 and began his fellowship in Cardiology at Cincinnati General Hospital from 1959 to 1962. He was the Associate Professor of Medicine at Cincinnati General Hospital till 1980. He would work there during the day and then see patients in Northern Kentucky in the evening. In 1980, he opened Cardiology Associates in Northern Kentucky and started the 1st Cardiac Cath lab in Northern Kentucky. He's had a long prestigious career as an invasive cardiologist, implanting pacemakers, defibrillators, and BiV devices. He has a record of the most implants of Medtronic devices. John is preceded in death by his wife Judy Holmes. He leaves behind his daughters Donna Pieper (Dan) and Vanessa Holmes (Jeff Lay). He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren Aaron (Jill), Marty, Emma, and Lily and great grandchildren Olivia and Piper. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 21, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at MIDDENDORF FUNERAL HOME, 3312 MADISON PIKE, FT. WRIGHT, KY 41017. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday, October 22, 2015 at 10:00 am at Blessed Sacrament Church, 2409 Dixie Highway, Ft. Mitchell, KY 41017. Entombment to follow at Highland Cemetery, in Ft. Mitchell. Immediately following Mass, people are welcome to join the family for a reception at the Fort Mitchell Country Club. In Lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations/gifts be made to St. Elizabeth Foundation, heart and vascular mobile diagnostic unit, 1 Medical Village Drive, Edgewood, KY 41017. Dr. Holmes saved my fathers life and met with him as recently as 3 weeks ago. I was deeply saddened to hear of Dr. Holmes's passing but will forever be thankful for his life, his work and dedication to his patients.

Spending many days and hours with Dr. Holmes, for the past eight months, was a blessing and a learning experience , but most importantly it enabled me to make a wonderful friend that will be greatly missed. He had a 'way' about him, like no other. I have so many great and funny memories to carry with me, of a great and compassionate human being. Soar with the angels my friend, I'm sure you will educate them on the correct method of doing so ☺.

Dr. Holmes will be greatly missed. He was a great cardiologist and took great care of my grandfather riding with him in the ambulance to the hospital to make sure he got the care he needed. His compassion for people and his work will remain in our thoughts and hearts forever. Thank You Dr. Holmes!

So sorry for your loss. When John quit doing pacemakers, my weeknights changed immediately. No one could compare to his skill level.No one could compare to his sense of humor. He always made me smile. Him and Joe were quite a team. May God bless him and keep him. My prayers are with his family, and friends. God Bless.

Dr. Holmes was a wonderful Cardiologist, and the community has benefited greatly from his many ideas and talents. I will always remember my first time making rounds with him as a nurse in Edgewood TCU.

I was very sorry to here of Dr. Holmes' passing. He was loved by his patients & those who worked with him over the years. He touched the lives of thousands of people in the No Ky & greater Cincinnati area- everyone he every "doctored" will remember him in their prayers. Only good memories remain for those of us lucky enough to have worked with him. He truly was one of a kind...may he rest in peace.
