Joseph MISHURDA Obituary

MISHURDA Joseph age 85 passed away peacefully on Sunday June 22 and is survived by his wife of 58 years, Asta, formerly Asta Asgeirsdottir of Reykjauik, Iceland. Six children, Nina (Paul) Roques of Washington D.C., Birgir R. (Debbie) Mishurda of Austin, TX., Mary Mishurda, Gloria (Michael) Herron, Joseph C. (Jane) Mishurda and Paul J. (Allison) Mishurda, Brother of Ann Mishurda and Uncle of Sister Mary Ann Mishurda of Johnstown, PA. Also survived by fourteen grand and eight great grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents, Konstantine and Mary (nee Skut) Mishurda. Brothers, John, Constantine, Michael, Paul, Nicholas, George and Sister Mary. Joseph was born February 21 1923 in Johnstown, PA. He served in WWII Europe as a B-24 Navigator in the 434th wing of the U.S. Army Air Corps completing 56 missions. He remained in the U.S. Air Force reserves until he retired in 1983 achieving the rank of LT. Colonel. After the war he graduated with a Civil Engineering degree from University of Pittsburg. Joseph moved to Cincinnati in 1956 and worked as a regional safety engineer for the U.S. Post Office and later as a certified Safety Professional with the U.S. Corps of Engineers. After retiring, he served as a volunteer for four years directing the Combined Federal Charity Campaign of Cincinnati. Member of Kalwinning Lodge #356 F & A M. Friends may visit Wednesday, June 25, at Gump-Holt Funeral Home 3440 Glenmore Ave., Cheviot from 5-8 pm. Services at St. George Serbian Orthodox Church 5830 Glenview Ave. (45224), Thursday at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the above church or Hospice of Cincinnati P.O. Box 633597, Cincinnati, OH (45263-3597).
