LeRoy ODER Obituary



ODER

Roy Oder died peacefully at age 89 on Sunday March 22. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Louise A. Oder (nee Redditt and Dempsey), and his second wife ,Violet C. Oder (nee Rahn and Henry). He was also preceded in death by his mother, Bertha M. Oder (nee Rider); his father, Randall M. Oder; his daughters, Jeanne M. Tilford (nee Redditt) and Barbara Montgomery (nee Henry); grandson, David K. Tilford; great-grandson, Jeffrey P. Tilford; brother, Cecil Oder; and niece Dianne Mellott (nee Oder). He is survived by his grandson Joseph P. Tilford; granddaughter Deborah Tilford; great-grandson Mike Tilford; great-granddaughters Molly Tilford and Jennifer Noel Tilford; and great-great granddaughters Rita Mae Schultz and Everleigh Claire Tilford. He is also survived by nephews David Oder and Randall Oder; daughter Kathleen Compton (nee Henry and Ranz) and grandchildren Patrick Compton, Rebecca Rumpler (nee Ranz) and Steven Ranz. Born LeRoy Oder, but affectionately known to all as Roy, he was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on January 26, 1926. He enlisted in the Marine Corps during World War II upon his graduation from high school, and served bravely in the invasion of Iwo Jima where he was wounded on the twentieth day of the battle. Upon recovering from his wounds, he served as part of the U.S. occupation forces in Japan after the end of the war. After his honorable discharge from the Marine Corps, he worked as an auto mechanic and rose up through the ranks of General Motors to eventually become a GM Training Center Manager in the Boston, Washington D.C., Oklahoma City, and Cincinnati training centers. He retired in 1991. In retirement he enjoyed the symphony, the theatre, the shooting sports, fly fishing and traveling throughout the U.S. and abroad. He was an avid and loyal fan of the Cincinnati Reds and the Bengals. He was a fine and honorable man who touched many lives. He will be missed by his family. Funeral services 1:00 PM Saturday, March 28, 2015, at the Gwen Mooney Funeral Home, 4389 Spring Grove Avenue, with visitation from 11:00 AM until the time of the service, with interment at Spring Grove Cemetery. I wanted to try and help my dad live to 100 but he lived a good life and made it to 93. Did not know Roy but it appears he had a great life. Peace and Love

So sorry for your loss. Roy was a very nice man and feel blessed to have known him. Mom and Dad sure liked spending time with Roy and Vi. Praying for comfort at this time for you Kathy, Pat, Becky and Steve and all other loved ones. Love you all
