Martin Huffman Obituary

HUFFMAN . Corporal Martin Forrest Huffman, USMC, was lost at sea June 9, 2004, while scuba diving in Gulf of Thailand. Born June 14, 1978 in Lafayette, IN, he attended N. Avondale, Shroeder and Walnut Hills, graduated Zoo Academy 1997, attended WNMU 2 years. Based with MATSG-21 in Pensacola since August 2003; previous 3 years in Okinawa with 3rd FSSG, he planned to return to Okinawa to live there with wife, Kuniko Yoshiyama and son, Kenton Forrest Huffman, upon discharge from Marines in August 2004. He loved nature and adventure, trekked in Nepal, canoed the Rio Grande, enjoyed Marine Corps mountain and jungle maneuvers, relished martial arts and survival training with S Korean and Thai Marines, earned certifications in open-water, rescue, and cavediving. He and Kuniko enjoyed back-packing and diving trips exploring AsianPacific. Mother and stepfather, Jacquelyn and Thomas Reed, reside in Cincinnati; father and stepmother, Charles and Norry Huffman n Los Angeles; sister and brother-in-law Jennifer and Tim Ulasewich, Denver; stepsister Korianne Haas, Tampa; and stepbrother Grant Haas; Flagstaff. Grandparents are Charlotte Buckner and Steve Perdue of Marion, IN; John and Carol Thomas of Troy, OH; David and Carol Reed of Placerville, CA; and Robert and Sheran Simpson of Mason, OH. Family members in Okinawa include parents-in-law, Seian and Ritsuko Yoshiyama, sisters-in-law Naoko Yoshiyama and YukoHiroyama, and brother-in-law Hitoshi Yoshiyama. Navy divers placed a memorial marker on sea floor of dive site and his family held a memorialservice on beach in Koh Samui, Thailand, June 18. Friends may call at Noon, with Memorial Service at 1 P.M. Saturday, July 10 at United Church of Christ, 5808 Glenview Ave., College Hill. Memorials may be sent in Cpl Huffman's name to Cincinnati Zoo or to Kenton Forrest Huffman Education Fund at any Fifth Third Bank.
