HIZER

Monica Hizer (nee Murphy) age 96 passed away July 28, 2016. She was preceded in death by her adoptive parents, Patrick and Magdalene Murphy; her husband of 56 years, Elbert Hizer; her daughters Joan Ackerman and Barbara Jansen; her son-in-law, Jerry Day, and her devoted friend and travel companion, John (Jack) Sweeney. She is survived by her son, Gregory (Joni) Hizer and her daughters, Kathleen (Tom) Staska and Patricia (Roman) Schneider along with 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren. Monica was born in Great Falls Montana, and grew up in Scobey Montana where she enjoyed riding horses, snow skiing behind a pickup truck across the flat plains of eastern Montana, and shooting gophers for the bounty of 5¢ each. She graduated from Scobey High School in 1937 and attended St. Catherine College in Minnesota. She moved to Cincinnati in 1939 following her marriage to Elbert Hizer at St. Philip's Church in Scobey. She was an active parishioner at St. Catharine of Siena Parish in Cincinnati where, as a member of the parish sewing group, she helped create the seasonal liturgical banners that still hang in the church today. She enjoyed spending winters at her condo near the beach on Marco Island Florida, serving on the Condominium Board, and was also active in that community's San Marco Parish. Wherever she was, Monica enjoyed bowling, golf, reading, needle point, and card games with friends and family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Catharine of Siena Church, 2848 Fischer Place, Cincinnati OH 45211; St. Philip Church, 404 Timmons Street, Scobey MT 59263; or the Daniels County Pioneer Village Museum, Scobey MT 59263. Funeral/Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday August 5, 2016 at St. Catharine of Siena Church, There will be no visitation.
