Phyllis Janet Staples, wife of William Staples (deceased), mother of William Jr. (deceased), Mark, Daniel and Michael Staples, mother-in-law of Earline Staples, motherly friend of Gary Francis of Cold Springs, KY, and grandmother of Mike, Scott, Bill and Mark Staples.

Died in Albuquerque, NM, January 4, 2015. Phyllis was born in Chicago, IL, June 1, 1930.

Phyllis was known by all for her outgoing personality, her ability to tell a family story in an engaging and humorous way, and her impeccable taste, style and creativity in clothing and décor. Phyllis was raised by her father, Daniel Minske, after her mother began a life-long struggle with mental illness when Phyllis was age 4.

She met and married William Staples in 1950 and they settled in Cincinnati, OH, where William began an electrical career with a local TV station. In the midst of raising four children, Phyllis began work in cosmetics sales at a Cincinnati department store. There she impressed customers and colleagues alike with her flawless presentation, evident through her beautiful skin and stylish wardrobe, much of it hand-sewn. She balanced her sales career with raising four children, who always knew her complete love and devotion, and who enjoyed many fabulous feasts at her holiday tables.

She tragically lost her oldest son, William, to brain cancer in 1985, yet was able to maintain her composure and optimism.

Phyllis lived with her son Michael in Albuquerque since April, 2011. She enjoyed the moderate climate and quickly established a warm and engaging rapport with all of Michael's friends. She was later joined by her son Mark, who moved to Albuquerque from Delaware in 2013.

All three sons, including Daniel of Cleveland, OH, were present with Phyllis as she struggled in her last days, and who are now sustained with lasting memories of her love, and who will always remain equally amused by her many humorous family stories.

A Catholic funeral mass for Phyllis will be conducted at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Cincinnati, OH, 3450 Lumardo Avenue, at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 17th.
