Robert AUSDENMOORE Obituary

AUSENMOORE Dr. Robert W. Ausdenmoore passed away August 5 at his daughter's home in North Carolina, with his high-school sweetheart and devoted wife of 53 years, LaVerne (nee Pohlman) by his side. He was 77 years old. A lifelong resident of Cincinnati - except for brief stints away to complete a medical residency in St. Louis, and to serve as a medical officer in the US Navy - Dr. Ausdenmoore was a graduate of St. Xavier High School, the University of Cincinnati and the UC College of Medicine. His illustrious medical career was spent on the forefront of pediatric allergy treatment, research and education. He was associated with Cincinnati Children's Hospital for 50 years - as a resident, attending physician, director of the pediatric allergy clinic, and clinical professor in pediatrics, allergy and immunology - and continued to volunteer at the hospital's allergy clinic until his illness was diagnosed earlier this year. In addition, he assisted thousands of greater Cincinnati families during his 35 years in private practice. His long career included many awards and honors, including terms as president of the Cincinnati Pediatric Society and president of Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Staff. Dr. Ausdenmoore was devoted to his family and leaves behind many who will miss him deeply. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children Bob (Janet); Kathy Flynn (Mike); Bernie (Peg); Hank (Billie); Tim (Kate); and Chris (Jennifer), and 16 grandchildren. His son Dan (Rhonda) preceded him in death in 2009. He is also survived by brother Fred (Pat); brother-in-law Ray Pohlman and sister-in-law Bernice Sutter (Jack); many cousins, nieces and nephews; and long-time friends. Dr. Ausdenmoore's life will be celebrated at a Memorial Mass at St. Monica - St. George Church, 328 W. McMillan Street, Cincinnati, on Saturday, August 21 at 10:30 a.m., followed by a reception at St. Monica Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the University of Cincinnati Medical School at UC Foundation, PO Box 19970, Cincinnati, OH 45219, or to Hospice of Wake County, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607.
