Robert BALDWIN Obituary

BALDWIN Robert J. Baldwin, born in 1920, passed away at home on August 2nd 2007. Bob graduated from Drake University, and was commissioned as a Naval Officer for WWII. His most memorable assignment was four years as liaison with the French Navy in Paris, France. After retirement from the U.S. Navy, Bob began a second career with a Masters Degree in Public Administration from Ohio State and became Assistant Director of Urban Development in Cincinnati in 1964, with responsibility for Urban Renewal Projects. Caught up in the effort to "Save the Delta Queen," he worked as Vice-President for Operations of the Greene Line Steamers, Inc. He then returned to city employment, serving as the budget supervisor on the Cincinnati City Manager's staff until his retirement. He was instrumental in bringing the Showboat Majestic to her new home on the Cincinnati Public Landing. In 1988 he managed River Operations at the first "Tall Stacks" historic collection of paddlewheel riverboats. He retired to Las Vegas in 1996. He had always been an active volunteer in the community and church. He was preceded in death by his first wife June Tangerman Baldwin in 1989. He was loved and will be dearly missed by his family including his loving wife Shirley, son Mark Baldwin, daughters Jane Seers and Laurel Alfieri, step-son Mike Downing and families. He will be laid to rest with Navy Honors at Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to your favorite charity.
