Steven STEVENS Obituary

STEVENS

Steven B., 71, started his broadcasting career in his hometown of Chillicothe, Ohio. He relocated to Cincinnati to join the WLWT TV news team as the weekend anchor and reporter from St. Louis where he was a newscaster on the number-one rated KXOK. He is a 2009 inductee to the "St. Louis Broadcast Hall of Fame." He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Gisela (Schmidtke) Stevens. They have four daughters: Stephanie, who preceded him in death in 1982; Kristi Jacobsen (Ole), and children Leif and Elias; Lindsey Stevens; and Hilary Oswald (Sean). Steven recorded many Bible translations that have been duplicated millions of times. He was a Christian businessman who was passionate about increasing quality of life by staying healthy. Steven wanted everyone to know the good news of Jesus. He supported missionaries worldwide, made over 20 trips to Africa, and led many groups into Russia, bringing in medical supplies and Bibles. Steven was full of vitality and joy and will be missed by many; a memorial service will be held at Vineyard Cincinnati Church in Springdale on Wednesday, October 10 at 10am. In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to make a donation to the Steven B. Stevens Foundation to support missions. To express condolences go to Grunnfuneralhome.com

Steven was a good Friend and Business
Associate. He was a good man, and a super husband. I really enjoyed being around Steven and Gisela. They had a giving heart. I miss his commanding presence and his quick wit. He should fit in Heaven very nicely.

Gisela and family:
I was so very sorry to hear of Steve's passing. You both were welcome visitors many times in my parents home -Don and Mary Walter. Steven was so kind to me and used to treat me as an adult, something a pre-teen rarely enjoyed. He used to read poetry, stories and scripture to me, when I am sure he had many more interesting things to do, and I have never forgotten that kindness.
He is now with my Mom and Dad in Heaven, and I hope they have many more joyful times togther.
God bless you and your family, and give you strength.

Dear Steven,
Thank you for finding me many years ago. It was a great comfort to know I wasn't an only child left to struggle through this earthly life alone! That was a happy surprise to discover I had a big brother. You opened my eyes and mind to so many concepts and treated me to so many new and exciting adventures. You were the shining star in our family and certainly you are now one in Heaven. I gaze up very night and can still hear your strong, gentle, understanding voice sustaining me with guidance and comfort. I know it was not your choice to leave us, but I understand you couldn't refuse God's call. I miss you more than I could ever say and will hold you deep within my heart forever. Thank you for sharing your kindness, your family, hospitality and generosity. I will be forever grateful for the time I had the blessing of having you in my life. Our father would have been in awe and admiration of all of your unique and special accomplishments, interests and travels. Without question you exemplified the true meaning of being a faithful husband and devoted father and grandfather. You had a huge hurdle to leap over, and like everything else you set your mind to, conquered it with amazing success. I'll miss you, Bro!

Dear Gisela,
Steven B's death really hit me hard. I figured he'd be around long after the rest of the KXOK gang had departed. But we never know for whom the bell will toll. I'll never forget him....or you. God bless you.

I was surprised and saddened by this news. I used to live in Chillicothe and did my student teaching at CHS. Steven was one of my students. I have never forgotten him or his beautiful voice, and was happy to "see" him again when he began broadcasting here in Cincy.
My sympathy to his family. May God give you comfort in this difficult time. . .Marjorie Davis

Steven was a great friend and colleague. I'll miss his humor, his insight and always optimistic view of life. On a lighter note, now, if God ever needs to rest his voice, he has a good substitute available.
