Violet HORTON Obituary

HORTON Violet, 86, of Bettendorf, IA, formerly of Cincinnati, died Monday, August 25, 2003 at Fejervary Health Care Center, Davenport, IA. Celebration of Life Services will be held 10 A.M. Saturday, August 30, 2003 at the Dennis George Funeral Home, 44 South Miami, Cleves. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Cleves. Memorial gifts are welcome to the University of Iowa Foundation, Department of Ophthalmology, PO Box 4550, Iowa City, IA 52244-4550. Violet was born March 17, 1917, in Duluth, MN. She married James Horton on May 12, 1938 in Cincinnati, OH. He preceded her in death in 1991. Violet was a secretary at the Monsanto Chemical Co. in Cincinnati for 25 years, retiring in 1982. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Jim Knox, Bettendorf, IA; two grandchildren, Jodie Schwirtz (Matthew) and Andrew Knox (Shari) all of Bettendorf, five great-grandchildren; a sister, Irene Boss of Missouri; and a spcial friend, Richard Keely of Springfield, IL. In addition to her husband, Violet was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and four brothers.
