Walter Burton Obituary
WALTER (Walt) COLE BURTON, 82, of Cincinnati passed away on January 7, 2017. Walt was a leading figure in the Greater Cincinnati photography world for decades. Walt started his photography career in the Army in the 1950's. He attended Withrow High School and the University of Cincinnati. His work was published in Vogue, Newsweek, Playboy, and Look. He photographed the first U.S. tour of the Beatles in Cincinnati in 1964. Walt served as official photographer of Playhouse in the Park and the University of Cincinnati. He was owner of a Fourth Street gallery in downtown Cincinnati. Walt resided in Clifton for many years where his Son fondly remembers him being a Scout Master of Troop 161. Walt also taught photography and was instrumental in starting the NKU photography department. Walt became a collector and dealer in vintage photography with a national reputation. His collection included original photographs of the Wright Brothers earliest aviation adventures that Walt published in "The Wright Brothers Legacy" book celebrating 100 years of flight. He was the son of John Paul Burton and Effie J. Burton. He is survived by son, Jason S. Burton, daughter-in-law, Katie Burton, and granddaughter, Aria Lillian Burton of Boulder, Colorado. Walt was a unique and "bigger than life" character with a wonderful sense of humor whose personality filled a room. He was a very loving Father and Grandfather, and a friend who will be greatly missed. Arrangements entrusted to Spring Grove Cremation Society.

Hello Jason, I thought of your father today not knowing this is where I would find him. I worked at Kinko´s on Clifton and Calhoun in 1990 and he would stop in often. I would help him work on some of his projects. He spoke of you much and would call you from our phone to check on you or see if you wanted any food. I loved Walt Burton, he was so kind to me and anyone who spoke to him. He would always say "quit the things that don´t make you feel good". There was a man who actually asked him why is he always upbeat and happy...that was a classic moment. Walt Burton, not one who could be replaced ever. Kind, jolly, friendly, caring, giving, smart, talented, and a great father.

Walt was a second father to me. He took me under his wing at age eight and we have been the dearest of friends ever since. There never was, nor will there ever be anyone like Walt. I was blessed to have had him as a vital part of my life. My heart goes out to Jason and his family and all those fortunate to have known him.

Jason and family,
I was fortunate to claim Walt as a friend. I remember Walt from the 60's and his bigger then life figure in the city of Cincinnati. I remember when Walt was all over downtown with camera in hand. I remember Walt and his former wife Amy. What a pair !! I am sorry that I did not see him for many years. Our paths never crossed. My loss.
Walt will always have a place in Cincinnati history as he gave more then he ever took.
May his memory be for a blessing.
