Harold Bowers Obituary

Circleville Harold 'Herb' Bowers was born April 10, 1932, to the late George and Susan Bowers. Harold was born and grew up on the family farm on Hagerty Road where the family still lives today. He is survived by his son, Harold 'Joe' and Han Bowers, his two daughters, Debra and James McCoy and Patty and Mike Lee. He has three grandchildren and step-grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews around the country and in South Korea. Harold is also survived by Dee and Dorothy 'Dot' Bowers. Harold was the last of four brothers and preceded in death were George Jr., Rojer and Gerald 'Jerry' Bowers and son-in-law Reverend Keith Davis. Harold was a US Navy Veteran who served during the Korean Conflict for a short time but was Honorably discharged due to injuries received in basic training. Harold went on to work at the Dupont facility in Circleville until his retirement. Harold married Betty Woods but later divorced and never remarried. Harold also served as the Police Chief of South Bloomfield for several years. Harold supported the Circleville High School Band and received numerous accolades for his support while Debby and Patty were in the band and for several years afterwards. Harold also enjoyed renovating his home and enjoyed working outside until later in life. He was also the owner and driver of HR Bus Lines and had tours to numerous areas of the country where he made numerous friends. Harold stayed at home as much as possible during his illnesses and he was always smiling and joking with his care givers and doctors. He was always commented on his 'charm' and was respected and admired by those who met him during his times of illness, thanking them every day for the care they gave him. One lady in particular, Dee, would travel some distance to help Harold as much as she could after meeting and helping him in Berger Hospital. Harold's family will receive friends 9-10 AM Saturday, October 7 at Defenbaugh-Wise-Schoedinger Funeral Home 151 E. Main St. Circleville where his Memorial Service will immediately follow at 10 AM Saturday. In lieu of flowers, any contributions in his honor can be made to either the Trinity Lutheran Church of Circleville or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in his name. The family would like to thank the Brown Memorial staff, the Berger Hospital staff, any transportation companies and any other medical personnel who respectfully helped or transferred him between facilities as needed. Mr. Bowers always had a smile and was very kind to me when I lived in the apartments on Lewis Ave. I was "new to Circleville" and he made me feel warmly welcomed. Even years later when I visited him one day in Brown Memorial, he was the kind and gentle gentlemen as I remembered him from the late '70's - late 80's. Very nice memories of him will be with me when I think of all of you tomorrow.
Please accept my deepest sympathy to each of you who loved him.
