Kingston Jerry L. Sherwood, 83 of Kingston, Ohio, passed away peacefully at home on December 22, 2024 after a long battle with dementia. He was born July 14, 1941 to the late William Russell Sherwood and Edna Pauline (Timmons) Sherwood.
He was united in marriage on October 14, 1966 to Barbara R. (Pinnix) Sherwood, who survives. They were blessed with two children, Russell A. Sherwood and Leigh Ann (Tom) Meeker, and one granddaughter, Baileigh A. (Jeremee) Cantrell, who was the third blessing in his life. Known to her as her Pa Jerry. He is also survived by sisters, Nancy June (Ron) Leadingham and Judy Ann (Russell) Wintersheimer; aunt, Mary Lou Coey; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents and brother, Robert R. Sherwood.
After graduation from Kingston High School in 1960, he served his country in the Navy aboard the USS Constellation. He retired from E.I. DuPont Circleville after 35 years. He was a lifelong member of the NRA, member of American Legion Post 291 Kingston, serving as commander for many years. One of his favorite duties was celebrating Memorial Day services at various local cemeteries. The Legion was known for their monthly fish frys, where you got a hot fish sandwich made to order.
A history buff, he took his family on long vacations to many National Parks and historical sites from Maine to California. He also enjoyed white water rafting and karate, earning a brown belt with his wife. He spent many years country line dancing with the Kingston Kickers and more recently with Shakin Stompers in Jackson, Ohio.
In the Territorial Desperados Cowboy Action Shooting Club his alias was "Sidewinder Jer." He received many awards including "Top Hand" for dedication and hard work, "Range Wrangler" for many years of range maintenance and service to the club. A talented man he could build anything he wanted. He enjoyed life to the fullest, and was known for his sea stories, wise cracking jokes and philosophical sayings. He will be missed by anyone who was lucky enough to know him.
