Beatrice C. Melton

Black Mountain - Beatrice C. Melton, 92, of Black Mountain, passed away on Thursday, April 27, 2017.

Born in Wilson County, NC, to the late Betty Carter Creech and Charles C. Creech, Bea attended school in Pikeville, NC, and played basketball during high school. She married Woodrow Daniel Melton, Sr., and they raised two children in Eastern NC. She worked at Camp Lejeune as a military pay supervisor. Bea enjoyed sewing, gardening, baking, and spending time with family and friends. She retired and lived in the Asheville, NC, area for over 30 years.

Bea is preceded in death by her parents and husband. She is survived by her son, Woodrow Daniel Melton, Jr. (Jane), of Clemmons, NC; daughter, Kathryn Horne, of Asheville and grandson, Duane Horne, of Asheville.

The family would like to thank the staff and management of Mountain Ridge Health and Rehab in Black Mountain, for their care and support for Bea the past three years.

Groce Funeral Home on Tunnel Road is helping the family with visitation Thursday evening, May 4 from 6 to 7:00 p.m. and the funeral service will be held in their chapel on Friday, May 5 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Jacksonville, NC, at Onslow Memorial Park on Monday, May 8 at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to your local animal shelter or another charity of your choice.
