Asheville - Felicia Gourdin, 85, passed away peacefully on December 7, 2015 at
JF Keever Solace Center in Asheville, after a short and sudden illness. Her family appreciates all of the thoughts, prayers, and support of her many friends.
Born Felicia Kuhlman in Knoxville, Tennessee, Felicia lived most of her long life on that side of her beloved Smoky Mountains, moving to Asheville in 2007. Nicknamed "Scottie" in high school, in her early life she was an equestrian, a Chi Omega Sister, and an animal husbandry student. She married Walter James Gourdin (d. 2008) in 1948 and their adventure took them to Norris Lake, where as founding members of the Fountain City Sportsman's Club, they lived for 44 years. Scottie and Walt raised their three surviving children, Rick Gourdin (Asheville), Celeste Selwyn (Asheville), and Renee Mitchell (Waynesville) on the lake, giving them a unique and priceless childhood. Scottie returned to school in her forties, becoming an RN and one of the early Nurse Practitioners. She loved working as an ER nurse and later in Ob/Gyn at (among others), the Anderson County Health Department and the Knoxville Women's Center.
Her circles of friends include those in West Knoxville from her youth, The Sportsman's Club, Girl Scouts, her nurse practitioner buddies, genealogy researchers, the Oak Ridge Kennel Club, the Sunday School class at Fountain City Methodist Church, and all those she held close at Deerfield Episcopal Retirement Community in Asheville.
Scottie was a proud member of St. Giles Chapel at Deerfield where she served on the Chapel committee, as a chalice bearer, acolyte, and lay reader of scripture.
Along with her three children, Felicia leaves behind their much loved spouses, Margaret, Bob, and Sam, 9 grandchildren, who made her proud, and 15 great- grandchildren who astounded and amused her.
She was especially fond of her nephew, David Reid (Knoxville).
Graveside services at Lynnhurst Cemetery in Knoxville will be held Thursday, December 13th at 11 a.m. Memorial service at St. Giles Chapel in Asheville, will be Sunday, December 13, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to Meals on Wheels would be deeply appreciated.

It was more than a blessing to be a part of Socttie's life. From knowing her and her family in Norris,Tn and reuniting by working with her at Knoxville Center for Reproductive health. Her spirit was fun, fire, free and full of kindness.

So very shocked and sad to know Felicia is no longer with us. We were schoomates at Tyson and KHS and in the same parties, social gatherings and later on through life at little groups of friends and school reunion. So many memories of her, so sparkling and vivacious, keen intellect, and very warm, caring, poised, and lovely. Her smiling photo of our last lunch with old friends, is framed on display before me, and her memory lives on. She was a bright light in this world, and left it so much a better place. We who knew her are fortunate and blessed
