Pinner, Jr.
Black Mountain - On Wednesday, December 23, Howard Melton Pinner, Jr., 91, of Black Mountain, NC embarked on his final "flight" and "mission" to heaven. A loving husband of 68 years, Howard, also known as Poppa, will be remembered by family and friends for his quick wit, compassion, and sense of humor.
Howard Melton Pinner, Jr. was born in West Asheville, NC, to Nell Moore and Howard M. Pinner. Howard received his B.S. degree in chemistry from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. He worked as a textile chemist and colorist.
A decorated veteran, Howard Pinner, received the Distinguished Flying Cross for "extraordinary achievement" for his valiant tour in WWII as a B17 Pilot of the 398th Bomb Group.
Howard was a dedicated member of First Baptist Church of Asheville. He and his wife, Jo, attended services and enjoyed the fellowship of the senior ministries.
Pinner was deeply committed to volunteering at charitable organizations including the Kiwanis Club of Asheville, Salvation Army, Habitat for Humanity, Red Cross, and the Land of the Sky.
Howard loved tending to his daylily garden. He enjoyed traveling to Australia and Europe with his wife as his "co-pilot."
Howard leaves behind his wife, Jo Mathis Pinner, and children, Loree Pinner Olsson, Daniel Howard Pinner, Julian Lee Pinner, and Joanne Pinner Smith, He has seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Valor Hospice at the Charles George VA Medical Center, 1100 Tunnel Road, Asheville, NC 28805.
A memorial service will be held at 3pm on Sunday, December 27, at the chapel of First Baptist Church of Asheville.

May Gods blessings be upon the Family at this time. When I look at the lilies in my flower garden I will always remember where they come from . Thanks Howard and Jo for being my neighbor for so many years.
