Jan Pressley Obituary

Jan Pressley

Maggie Valley - Jan Dalton Pressley, age 58, passed away on Monday, April 13 at Mission Hospitals.

A native of Henderson County, Jan resided in Haywood County since 1977 where she published Homes and Land Magazine for 33 years. Jan was a member of the Peachtree United Methodist Church, and she was active in many civic organizations, the Maggie Valley Fire Department, the Haywood County Rescue Squad, the Haywood County Board of REALTORS, and the Haywood County Democratic Party. Jan also served in an unofficial capacity as the Haywood County EMS Director's Best Friend and Assistant.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Billie Dalton of Hendersonville. Surviving members of her immediate family are her husband of 37 years, Jim; daughter Kayla Pressley and her fiancé, Heath Seay; father and mother-in-law, Vaughn and Norma Jean Pressley, of Fletcher; her brother, Mike Dalton, and his wife, Greer, of Shelby; her niece, Laurie Hendrick, and her husband, Eric, and their children, Blake and Logan, of Shelby; and her nephew Michael Dalton and his wife, Kari, of Charlotte.

Jan's extended family was far reaching. She loved working with and for people, and people loved working with Jan. She was blessed with many outstanding, special friends. The family would like to extend their deepest thanks for all the thoughts, prayers, kind words, and deeds of support.

To quote the poet Maya Angelou: "A great soul serves everyone all the time. A great soul never dies. It brings us together again and again."

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 16, 2015 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend David Reeves and Reverend Tim McConnell officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 15, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to SARGE'S Animal Rescue Foundation, P.O. Box 854, Waynesville, NC 28786, or to The Haywood County School Foundation for the Cafeteria Project, 1230 N. Main Street, Waynesville, NC 28786.
