Weaverville - Joan Aberdeen DeHon Sanderson, 87, of Weaverville, NC, died of natural causes at her home on July 17, 2017.

She was born on January 15, 1930, in St Pete, FL, to Theodore DeHon and Jeanette Johnson DeHon. At the age of 19, Joan earned her license as a Medical Laboratory Technologist and began a lengthy career. She married William Lloyd Sanderson, Jr., on June 10, 1950, and they traveled on several mission trips to multiple Spanish-speaking countries. As part of her ministry, Joan started a laboratory clinic in Barranquilla, Colombia, South America. As a clergy family, they also served St Mark's in Haines City, FL and St David's by the Sea in Cocoa Beach, FL. Later in life she continued her missions to Central American countries, and locally with her church and ABCCM in Asheville.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents and husband. She is survived by her children, William (Glenda), John (Vicki), Larry, all of Weaverville, NC; and Teresa (Edward) Harrison, of Jacksonville, FL; as well as seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at Grace Episcopal Church, Asheville, NC, at 11:00 AM Monday, July 24. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Grace Episcopal Church.
