Judy Virnelson Obituary
Spruce Pine - Judy Patton Virnelson, age 79, of Spruce Pine, passed away on Friday, December 14, 2018 at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital in Spruce Pine.
Born on November 28, 1939 in Buncombe County, she was the daughter of the late Gus and Anna Laura Wilson Patton. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert 'Bob' Virnelson who passed away earlier this year. She was also preceded in death by two sons; Tommy and Johnny Virnelson.
Judy was a member and active in her current church, St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Pawley's Island, SC. She was a Registered Nurse and was instrumental in establishing the labor and delivery department at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital in Spruce Pine. She loved her grandchildren and was an avid supporter of Mountain Heritage Cougar Football.
Left to cherish her memories are her son; Randy Virnelson and wife, Sarah of Spruce Pine; her daughter-in-law; Kathy Sale of Charlotte; her grandchildren; Jake Virnelson and Zeb Virnelson both of Spruce Pine; Robby Virnelson and wife, Melanie of Charlotte; and Nikki Anderson and husband, Will of Hickory; her sister-in-law; Kay Thompson of Charlotte; and her special friend, Sabie.
A service to celebrate Judy's life will be planned and announced later at Sharon Memorial Park in Charlotte, NC.
The family would like to extend special 'Thanks' to Hospice and Palliative Care of the Blue Ridge and the staff and nurses of Blue Ridge Regional Hospital for their wonderful care of Judy.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to; Mountain Heritage Touchdown Football Club, 333 Mountain Heritage High School Road, Burnsville, NC 28714.
