Kathleen Shugrue Obituary

Sam - born Kathleen Ann Shugrue on November 5, 1952 at St. Vincent Hospital, Los Angeles, Calif., died on January 13, 2011 at Mission Hospital in Asheville, under the care of a very loving and gentle RN staff. Sam is survived by her children, Jeannie Lynn Grant of Illinois and Jerry Lee Grant Jr., her daughter-in-love, Sara Lea Grant of Weaverville. Her grandchildren, William Patrick Grant of Illinois and Grace Kathryn Grant and Alexis Myra Grant of Weaverville. She is also survived by her sisters, Linda Kellbach (Jack Kellbach), Maureen Redman (Mike Redman); sister-in-love, Deborah Summerlin; and brother, Timothy Shannon (Kathleen Shannon); along with four nieces, five nephews, two grand nieces, cousins; and her step-father, James Patrick Shannon of Ohio.

Sam has now been reunited with her father, Robert Emmett Shugrue, and her beloved mother, Evelyn Jeanne Mauler.

Sam was raised in Riverdale, Ill. she lived in the Chicagoland area until the 80s. She graduated from Elisabeth Seton High School with honors in South Holland, Ill. in 1970. She also graduated with highest honors from DePaul University (Bachelor of Science in Commerce) in June 1979.

After leaving Illinois, Sam lived in Virginia, Colorado, and Orlando, Fla. before finally settling in Weaverville, N.C. She was a CPA/accountant by trade. In Orlando, Sam started her spiritual journey and became an ordained minister (Alliance of Devine Love), she officiated at the marriage of her son and his wife in 2001.

Her spiritual drive brought her to North Carolina, where she furthered her studies in the Alliance of Devine Love and natural healthcare. Sam continued her work in helping others until her sudden death. Sam was a Reiki Master and practitioner of: Adamantine Health Systems, Arcing Light, Pure Source Energy, Bio-Genesis, Pythagorean Chimes, Crystal & Acutonics Tuning Forks, Certified Natural Health Professional, EVOX Biofeedback, Certified Voice Bio Sound Therapy, LSA Pro System, and Flower Essence Therapy. Clients were not business acquaintances but friends who were cared for very deeply.

In lieu of flowers we would like to send donations to Alliance of Devine Love (115 Willow Oak Drive Asheville, NC 28805). Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 22 at 2 pm, Homewood 19 Zillicoa, Street Asheville, NC 28801.
