KENNETH ARTHUR PRESNELL

MARION - Kenneth Arthur Presnell, 79, of Marion, passed away Saturday, December 22, 2012, after a long battle with cancer at his residence with his loving family by his side. A native of Yancey County, NC, he was born June 25, 1933 to the late Roy Presnell and Tessie Thomas Presnell. Ken retired from the U.S. Air Force after serving 27 years, was a two time Vietnam veteran and was the Senior Enlisted Advisor at Shaw Air Force Base. He was owner of Presnell's General Mdse. for the past 30 years and was a member of Lions Club, The Gideon's International and Chamber of Commerce. Ken was a member of First Baptist Church of Marion.

He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Lillian Ballew Presnell of the home; two daughters, Marcia M. Presnell of Glibert, SC and Teresa L. Presnell of Marion, NC; six siblings, Kate Blalock and husband, Clyde, Glenna Buchanan and husband, Billy, Joan Thomas and husband, Berl, Julia Anne Blevins and husband, Jim, Leland Presnell and wife, Jean, all of Burnsville, NC and Patsy Jenkins and husband, Larry, of Nashville, Tenn.; three brothers-in-law, Jack Ballew and wife, Lodella, Byrl Ballew and wife, Ruth, and Max Ballew and wife, Freida; two sisters-in-law, Lois Raymer and husband, Eugene, and June Suttles and husband, Steve. A number of nieces and nephews also survive.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, December 27, 2012 at 7 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Marion with Dr. Scott Hagaman and Rev. Terry Childers officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., two hours prior to the service, at the church. A graveside service will be held Friday December 28, 2012 at 10 a.m. at Patton Cemetery in Yancey County, NC. Military honors will be provided by the U.S. Air Force.

Those wishing to make memorial donations in Mr. Presnell's memory are asked to consider Hospice of McDowell County, 575 Airport Rd., Marion, NC 28752, First Baptist Church of Marion Building Fund, 99 North Main St., Marion, NC 28752 and/or Gideon's International, P.O. Box 1788, Marion, NC 28752.
