Marshall Gross Obituary

Marshall Edward Gross

Charlotte, NC - Marshall Edward Gross, died peacefully surrounded by his family on September 23, 2017. He was born on January 9, 1938, in Asheville, NC to the late Charles D. and Libbie I. Gross. His brother, Joseph S. Gross and his sister, Muryel Sue Gross preceded him in death.

Marshall was a graduate of Lee H. Edwards High School in Asheville and attended N.C. State University. Marshall joined IBM in Asheville and enjoyed a variety of assignments in Endicott, NY, Columbia, S.C., and Charleston, S.C. before moving to Charlotte in 1979. He retired in 1994 after a proud and successful 28 years of service to the company. Following retirement, Marshall enjoyed teaching computer courses through The Shepherd's Center and volunteering with the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department.

His biggest accomplishments were his two children and his two 13-year old granddaughters; Heide and Samantha. No grandfather could have been prouder. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Claudia H. Gross; a son, David Alan Gross and wife, Terri of Waxhaw, NC; a daughter, Shannon Rebecca Emmanuel and husband, Charlie of Charlotte; grandchildren, Heide Emmanuel and Samantha Gross. The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 28, 2017, from 6:00 to 8:30 PM at Kenneth Poe Services; 1321 Berkeley Ave, Charlotte, NC 28204. A private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22478 Oklahoma City, OK 73123 or Make-A-Wish Foundation Central and Western N.C. 1131 Harding Place, Charlotte, NC 28204. The family wishes to thank Marshall's incredible team of physicians, the supportive staff of the Harris YMCA and Southminster for their love and guidance.
