Ricardo Pedew

Asheville - Ricardo Lionel Pedew, 56, of Asheville, died Sunday, June 9, 2013 at The Oaks at Sweeten Creek, Arden.

"Ricky" as he was fondly known by family and friends, was born in Asheville to Cordelia Pedew Chambers and the late Barney C. Brown.

Ricky received vocational training at the WNC Center in Morganton. He became employed by Handi Skills where he worked for several years. He was a longtime member of Rock Hill Baptist Church and sang in the men's choir and attended prayer meetings. Gardening, however, was his passion and he enjoyed growing the biggest vegetables. He lived his life surrounded by family, who brought him support and joy.

In addition to his mother, Ricky is survived by stepfather, Marvin D. Chambers, Sr.; brothers, Victor R. Pedew and Marvin D. Chambers, Jr. of Asheville; sister, Alethea J. Alford of Virginia; nephrews, Avery Alford and James Chambers; nieces, Severine Alford and Destiny Chambers; many beloved cousins and close relatives.

Funeral service will be 3 PM, Saturday, Kenilworth Presbyterian Church, with Pastors Allen P. Smith and Charles Martin officiating. The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in Sunset Cemetery. Flowers will be accepted. Friends and family may also make donations to The Kenilworth Presbyterian Church, 123 Kenilworth Road, Asheville, NC 28803 and The Oaks at Sweeten Creek, 3864 Sweeten Creek Road, Arden, NC 28704.
