Richard Trantham Obituary

Richard Michael Trantham

Candler - Richard Michael Trantham was born on May 29, 1975 to Ross and Patsy Trantham. He departed this world for Heaven on Friday February 13, 2015. He was 39. Our time left on this earth will never be the same without his beautiful smile and his heartfelt hugs. While it may not have been obvious to everyone, Richard loved the Lord.

He was a native of Buncombe Co. and graduated from Enka High School. He spent 5 years in Boone, NC, at Appalachian State University where he earned Bachelor's Degrees in Business and Communications. He worked as a surveyor and was a member of Hominy Baptist Church.

He loved baseball, football and being outside. He loved all animals, especially his little Jack Russell Terrier that he called "Buddy Bo." Buddy died in 2011. He loved coaching Logan in baseball and watching him play basketball and baseball. He sincerely loved all his friends, too much so at times. He loved family get togethers.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by Logan Holbrook Trantham, his son and the light of his life. His grandparents, Wanda and Bill Wilde and Betty Trantham; and by his best friend and brother, Joshua Trantham and Joshua's son Hayden. He is also survived by his "brother" and lifelong friend, James (Jamie) Hale. Richard had many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who mourn the fact that they will never see his beautiful, smiling face again. His girlfriend, Tobin Tucker, loved him dearly. Richard was exuberant in life and gave his family and friends many happy times. He will forever live in our hearts.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Donald Trantham and his maternal grandfather, Francis Clark; his beloved uncle, Lonnie Trantham; and his aunt, Melinda Clark.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday at Hominy Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Joe Yelton, the Rev. Dr. Paul Raybon and Rev. Melissa Hughes officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. at the church.

Flowers are welcome if you so desire or memorials may be made to Hominy Baptist Church, 135 Candler School Rd., Candler NC 28715.

I have been so heart-broken since I heard the news of Richard's passing. I first met him as his eighth grade teacher. He was also a member of the youth group at Pole Creek Baptist Church while I was a leader. Richard was one of the sweetest, loving young men I have ever known. My thoughts and prayers are with Patsy, Ross, Josh, and the rest of his family and friends. God bless you all.

Richard had a ton of friends from his days at Appalachian, and I was fortunate enough to be one of them. Everyone who knew Richard liked him immediately. He had the biggest and warmest smile and like someone else said, he could light up a room like no one's business. My thoughts are with his family, which of course includes his good best friend, Jamie.

Dear Family,

I am so touched by the beautiful eulogy you so lovingly wrote. Although I didn't know Richard personally, your words paint a picture of an outstanding man. I pray God's strength, grace and healing will be multiplied to you each day. Jesus is coming soon! Just a little while and you will be together again. When my heart aches for my precious mother, now in Heaven, I picture her on a paradisaical vacation and know I will see her soon. I know our Redeemer will enfold you with His love and carry you through this. I hold each of you in my heart and in my prayers. Because He lives, we can face tomorrow.

My thoughts and prayers for all his loved ones. Richard was a rare source of energy and charisma. He walked into a room and "owned" it. We will all be better people for sharing in his life!

Richard was one of my very best friends. Richard was fun, smart, and everyone loved him. The one word that describes him best is heart. He cared for people; I have never met his equal when it came to caring about others. Richard's big heart was always on display and shined through his smile and actions. My heart felt condolences go to his family. His family is made up of some of the best people in the world and I know how much they loved Richard. I pray that they will find strength and ultimately peace as they suffer this great loss.
Wishing the family and friends of Richard mine along with my family's love and condolences.
