Robert Courtney Obituary

Robert "Bob" H. Courtney, 88, died Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at Clare Bridge following a period of declining health. A native of Haw Creek, he was son of the late Alfred and Lula Madalee Pinckney. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lucy M. Courtney in 2008.

Mr. Courtney was a US Army veteran of WW II. He was a member of the N. O. A. A. Contourist. He served as a former Deacon of South Asheville Baptist Church where he was a member.

He is survived by two sons, Dennis Courtney of San Antonio, Texas and Gary Courtney of Hendersonville; three daughters, Barbara Courtney of Sarasota, Fla., Linda Baker of Asheville and Kathy Courtney and her partner, Phyllis Robertson, of Asheville; two brothers, Don Courtney of Asheville and Jim Courtney of Charleston, S.C.; one sister, Shirley White of Asheville.

A funeral service will be held 2 PM, Friday, January 28, 2011 in the Mausoleum Chapel of Shepherd Memorial Park, with the Reverend Brenda Lewis officiating. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels, 146 Victoria Road, Asheville, NC.

Morris Funeral Home, 304 Merrimon Avenue is in charge of arrangements. Condolences may be made through the website www.morrisfamilyfuneralhome.com

I was so saddened by the news of Uncle Bob's death. You guys have had to deal with a lot in the last 3 years. May God be with you during this time and give you the strength to get through it. I wish I could be there.
