Alice Jancik Roberts of Wilkes-Barre passed away peacefully Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2023, with her husband by her side, after battling leukemia since 2020, including a courageous donor cell transplant from one of her grandchildren at Johns Hopkins in 2021, which gave her almost two more wonderful years.
She was born April 24, 1943, in Boonton, N.J., to William and Adele Pepich Jancik, but lived most of her life in Pennsylvania, including in Mountain Top and Kingston.
Alice had a long career at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Plains Twp.
In her younger years, she played softball with the "Powder Puffs" and bowled and danced the night away at the Sans Souci Park.
Alice loved traveling and visiting Point Pleasant, N.J., Hawaii, Mexico, and many countries in Europe as well as the Caribbean. She often went on cruises with her family and especially with her friend, Louise, as well as visiting her friends, Razz and Sharon.
She could always be found outside gardening for hours during the summer. She was also well known for her love of Wyoming Valley pizza, and had a goal of trying every pizza in the valley with her best friend, Rosie Smith.
She often volunteered at many different events in the area. She attended as many of her grandchildren's events as possible. Her guilty pleasure was watching reality and mystery shows and playing poker in Mountain Top.
She married Hugh G. Roberts of Sugar Notch on Oct. 3, 1964, and they were married for 58 years. She was an absolutely wonderful mother to her two children, Glenn, Syracuse, N.Y., and Gregg, Whitehall (married to Rosanne). Alice was the most fun-loving and awesome "Nana" to her grandchildren, Sarah and Jacob (Glenn's children), and Nathan and Nicholas (Gregg's children), with her life lessons and "Nana-isms."
She is survived by her sisters, Jane Stevens, Adele Kaschenbach and Linda, Susan and Lori; and brothers, Joe and Jim.
Her daughter-in-law, Laura Krombel Roberts; and her brother, William Jancik, both recently passed away.
"You will be missed so much by all of us. We love you dearly."
The family is planning a celebration of Alice's life at a later date.
Donations can be made in memory of Alice to The Leukemia And Lymphoma Society, www.lls.org; or Candy's Place, 190 Welles St., Suite 166, Forty Fort, PA 18704, https://cancerwellnessnepa.org.

So sorry, Linda and family on the passing of your sister. I remember coming over your house on Price Street in Kingston when I was young. It was always fun with all your brothers and sisters. Ron and I send our condolences.

I'm so sorry to learn about Alice passing away. We were neighbors several (I mean over 40) years ago. She was such a fun and sweet lady. She even volunteered pinching pierogies several years ago at my church. May she be at peace now.
