Barbara Ann Glennon Smith, 61 of Wilkes-Barre, passed away peacefully at home Wednesday, July 27, 2022, surrounded by her loving family as she entered into eternal life after a yearlong battle with cancer.
Barb was born on Nov. 28, 1960, to the late Leonard and Gertrude Drogalis Glennon. She graduated from Meyers High School in 1979 then went onto earn her certificate at Empire Beauty School. Barbie was an employee of Philadelphia Subs for the last 32 years.
She was married to the late Michael J. Smith on Sept. 10, 1983, for 29 years before his passing in 2012. Barb has spent the last eight years enjoying life with her companion, Donald Shovlin Jr.
Barbara is survived by her three dedicated children who cared for her lovingly over the past year, son, Michael B. Smith and his wife, Carissa; daughter, Kaylie and her husband, Sgt. Kevin O'Brien; and son, Patrick Smith and his wife, Kristi.
She is also survived by her beautiful grandchildren, Maddy, Miley and Hunter Smith; and Sophia and Conor O'Brien.
Barbara was the sister to the late Michael Glennon.
She is survived by her sister, Mary Savitski and her husband, John - Mary selflessly was by her side throughout this process and her breakfast buddy after treatments; Kathy Galardi and her husband, Joseph (Booker); Maureen Rushkowski and her husband, John; her brother, Seamus Glennon; sister, Colleen Lear and her husband, Mark; Michelle Schutte and her husband, Ron; Kelly Glennon and her companion, Jeremy Bahara; brother-in-law, Todd Smith and his wife, Rosemary; sister-in-law, Sandy Jackson and her husband, Ted; Holly and Lillian Jones; as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Barb enjoyed taking long walks, fishing and gardening with Don. They loved to dance in the living room to their song "Your Party" by Ween. She was the best and most loving mother, mother-in-law, "Grammy," "Mum Mum," sister and friend anyone could have.
Barbara was born into a large family; she was the sixth child out of nine. As an infant, Barbara became very ill but she beat the odds and pulled through. Her parents lovingly nicknamed her "our fighter." Her last fight was a valiant one.
Funeral services will be held at 8:30 a.m. Monday from Jendrzejewski Funeral Home, 21 N.e Meade St., Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. in St. Leo's Church, 33 Manhattan St., Ashley.
