Bernard Kubinetz Obituary

Bernard Kubinetz of Luzerne passed away Tuesday, March 11, 2014, peacefully at home.

Born in Pringle, he was the son of the late Joseph and Anna Bednar Kubinec. He was a graduate of Luzerne High School and was a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II.

Prior to his retirement, his was the assistant police chief in Luzerne Borough, truant officer for Wyoming Valley West and security for several stores in Luzerne. He received commendation for service performed while being a police office in Luzerne.

He was a member of St. Ignatius Church, Kingston, and the Donegal Society of Wilkes-Barre.

Bernie was a kind, quiet, caring man who loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved his crossword puzzles, watching "Wheel of Fortune" and "Jeopardy," swimming in the pool with his family and taking long rides out the back mountain with his wife and children. He loved all kinds of animals and watching deer and raccoons in his yard while telling stories of his time in the service, being a policeman and truant officer. He was well known by congressmen, judges, magistrates, lawyers and the county sheriff because of his professional mannerism and excellent work ethics.

He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Patricia Murray, and all of his siblings.

He is survived by his mother-in-law, Mary Kennedy Murray; children, Mary Jo Kubasti and husband, Stephen, Luzerne; Bernadine Kubinetz, Pikes Creek; Bernard F. Kubinetz and wife, Brenda, Luzerne; Colleen Shumbris, Dallas; George Visco and wife, Maureen, Luzerne; and Thomas Visco, York; grandchildren, Colleen Vikara, Stephanie Kubasti, Shawn Visco, Kimberly Kubasti and George Visco; great-grandchild, Michael Llewellyn; and great-great-grandchild Nathan.

The funeral will be held at 9 a.m. Friday from Betz-Jastremski Funeral Home Inc., 568 Bennett St., Luzerne, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Ignatius Church, Kingston.

Interment will be in Chapel Lawn Memorial Park, Dallas.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday.
