Beverly A. Capece, 71, of Hanover Twp., passed away Saturday, Jan. 21, 2023, at Allied Service Hospice Center, Wilkes-Barre.
She was born in Newark, N.J., Jan. 19, 1952, the daughter of the late George and Irene Hazlak Weber.
Beverly was a member of the graduating class of 1969 of Northwest High School. She went on to further in education at College Misericordia, Dallas, where she received a B.S. degree in elementary education/special education in 1972. She also attained her M.S. degree throughout her 33 years of employment with the Luzerne County Intermediate Unit 18. She was a devoted teacher who cared for and loved her students.
She was a member of PSEA and NEA.
Preceding her in death was her daughter, Stephanie Sciandra, on Oct. 29, 2016; and brother-in-law, Robert Lawson.
Surviving are her husband of 49 years, Richard M. Capece, at home; three grandchildren, Dailyn Cochran and Tyler and Nico Sciandra; son-in-law, PJ Sciandra; sisters, Lorraine Lawson and Carol Jackson; nephews, Joey Lawson and Jordan Jackson; and nieces, Debbie Warner and Lana Jackson.
Family and friends are invited to attend memorial calling hours from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at George A Strish Inc. Funeral Home, 105 N. Main St., Ashley. A prayer service will be held at 12:45 p.m. with the Rev. Vincent Dang officiating.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the entire staffs of Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center and also to Allied Services Hospice Center for their excellent care and compassion given to Bev in her time of need.
Donations can be made in her memory to place she held dear in her heart, the Diamond City Figure Skating Club, 38 Coal St., Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702.

Mrs. Capece was my daughters life skills teacher at Heights Murray School. She was a wonderful teacher and a wonderful person. I am truly saddened by the news of her passing.
