Cherie Gfeller, 50, of Nanticoke, passed away Saturday morning, June 17, 2023, while vacationing with her family on Chincoteague Island, Va.
She was born Nov. 12, 1972, to the late Earl S. Christian and the late Rosemary L. Yekel Christian Horwitz. Cherie was a graduate of Wyoming Valley West High School, Class of 1990, and received an associate degree from LCCC, and Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Wilkes University.
She was a substitute teacher for Wilkes-Barre Area and Wyoming Area schools.
Cherie belonged to the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 834, Nanticoke, where she had served as vice president and was active on the scholarship fund committee. Compassionate and outspoken, she will be remembered for her love of animals, especially her dogs, camping at Happy Days Campground near Bethel Woods and family vacations at Chincoteague Island.
In addition to her father and mother, she was preceded in death by a sister, Lee Ann Abend; stepfather, Robert Horwitz; and father-in-law, Klaus Gfeller.
She will be deeply missed by her husband, Marc, to whom she was married 29 years on Jan. 22, 2023; sons, Tyler Gfeller, Mahwah, N.J.; and Hayden Gfeller, Elkin's Park; brothers, Earl Christian Jr., Sidney Horwitz and Matthew Horwitz; sisters, Maurie Buckingham, Leslie Harris and Sara Horwitz; brother-in-law, Michael Abend; stepmother Kathy Christian; uncles, Harry Yekel Jr. and wife, Ruth; and Charles Christian and wife, Dorothy; aunt, Marion Ward; mother-in-law, Nicole Gfeller; brother-in-law, Paul Gfeller and partner, Darcy Sylvester; sister-in-law, Miriam Khatib and husband, Louay; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Cherie's life will be held from 4 to 6 p.m., Friday at Dinelli Family Funeral Home, 170 E. Broad St., Nanticoke. A memorial service will begin at 6 p.m. with the Chaplain William Bowden, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, consider a donation in Cherie's memory to the Nanticoke Eagles F.O.E. 834 Scholarship Fund, C/O Patty Benjamin, Secretary, 48 East Ridge St. Nanticoke, PA 18634.

Marc it is with a heavy heart that I have to express my condolences to you and to your family with the loss of Cherie. I know she meant the world to you and was the pillar of your family.
