Douglas W. Saunders, 90, of Swoyersville, passed away peacefully at home Monday, Aug. 15, 2022.
Born in Forty Fort, he was the son of the late Dorothy Pettebone and Robert Saunders. Douglas was a member of St. Ignatius Church, Kingston. He was a graduate of West Wyoming High School.
Douglas was the treasurer of the H.L. Sportsmen's Pistol & Rifle Club in Noxen for 50 years.
Prior to retirement, he worked as a mechanic and was last employed by Kingston Metal, Luzerne.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Edith McDonnell Saunders; daughter, Paula Drako and her husband, Joseph, Wilkes-Barre; daughter, Jane Saunders and her husband, Donald Nelson, Nanticoke; son, Douglas Saunders II and his wife, Maryjean, Luzerne; son, Mark Saunders and his wife, Joanne, Reading; daughter, Carolyn Greboniski, Swoyersville; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sister, Nancy Pettebone; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two grandchildren; and son-in-law, Mark Greboniski.
The family would like to thank the nurses and supporting staff of the Hospice of the Sacred Heart for the excellent care they provided to Douglas during home hospice.
As requested by the deceased, a private funeral service performed by the Rev. Paul McDonnell will be held from Hugh B. Hughes Funeral Home, Forty Fort, with an interment service following in Memorial Shrine Cemetery, Wyoming.

Dee and family-I am so sorry for your loss. My heart breaks for all of you. My memory of Doug is a pipe in his mouth and his mischievous smile. He was truly a gentleman. ❤ Do not worry, my mom is harassing him right now and having a great reunion.
