Edward Kane Obituary

Edward Martin Kane, 92, of Duryea passed away Friday, March 13, 2015, in Little Flower Manor, Wilkes-Barre.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late Martin and Mary O'Hara Kane. He was a graduate of GAR High School. He served in the United States Navy. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Bell Telephone, Pittston and Wilkes-Barre.

Prior to its closing, he was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Duryea, and was very active in many church activities, including the Holy Name Society. He was a member of Nativity of Our Lord Parish, Duryea.

He was a member of the Scranton Canoe Club and the Pittston Rotary Club, where he received the Paul Harris Fellowship Medal. He was an avid golfer who had numerous hole in ones.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Francis and sister, Mary.

He and his loving wife, the former Clare Maloney, celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary on Feb. 15, 2015.

Surviving in addition to his wife are daughter, Ellen Kane, Duryea; daughter, Laure Kane, Harrisburg; daughter, Judith Irwin and her husband, Hugh, Harrisburg; granddaughter, Lauren Jenkins and her husband, Isaac, Grandview, Mo.; nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staffs of Little Flower Manor, Hospice of the Sacred Heart and Bayada Home Health Care for the care and compassion that was shown to Edward.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Duryea, with the Rev. Thomas Maloney, the Rev. Andrew Sinnott and the Rev. Joseph Elston officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Avoca. Friends may call Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Bernard J. Piontek Funeral Home Inc., 204 Main St., Duryea. To leave the family an online condolence, please visit the funeral homes website www.piontekfuneralhome.com. Family and friends are asked to go directly to the church the morning of the funeral.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Little Flower Manor, 200 S. Meade St., Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702, or Hospice of the Sacred Heart, 600 Baltimore Drive #7, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702.

So sad to hear of Eds passing as he was a very kind and as I remember beautiful curly hair . Hw will be missed by his family much and all his friends and family as his Brother in Law was my cousin Tommy Kane and Mary ,Eds sister was Toms wife.
