Edwin H. Weidow

Edwin H. Weidow, 69, of Hanover Township passed away Thursday, March 20, 2014, in Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township, surrounded by his loving family after a lengthy illness.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late William Weidow and Margaret Carey Weidow. He was a graduate of Hanover Area High School and Luzerne County Community College. He was also a member of St. Robert Bellarmine (St. Aloysius) in Wilkes-Barre.

He was a proud veteran of the United States Army, having served in Fairbanks, Alaska, during the Vietnam era.

He was employed for many years by Sterling Engineer in Ashley, and Bloomsburg Metal in Wilkes-Barre.

He was preceded in death by sisters, Margaret Roles, Jane Marcino, Kathleen Gianifcaro, Nora Lamoreaux, Geraldine Stone, Virginia Keebler, Audrey Conwell; and brothers, John Weidow, Robert Weidow, William Weidow and Paul Weidow.

He dedicated his life to his family and is survived by his wife of 40 years, the former Donna Marie Lowery; his son, Edwin Weidow and wife, Gina, Kingston; his daughter, MaryBeth Zelinka and husband, Thomas, Hanover Township; sister, Glenda Engle, South Carolina; Ruth Marmo, Old Forge; and brother, Harry Weidow, Wilkes-Barre; his grandchildren, Thomas J. Zelinka Jr., Cooperstown, N.Y.; Tristan M. Zelinka and wife, Emily, York; Shannon M. Zelinka, Hanover Township; and Corey C. Zelinka, Hanover Township; numerous nieces and nephews and his beloved dog and best friend, Muffin.

The funeral will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday from Mamary-Durkin Funeral Home, 59 Parrish St., Wilkes-Barre. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Aloysius. Interment will be in Bloomingdale Cemetery in Bloomingdale. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
