It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Ferne Soberick Krothe into the arms of her Lord on Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2022.
Ferne was a lifelong resident and community enthusiast of Berwick.
She married the love of her life, Dale Krothe, in 1954. For 68 years, they enjoyed traveling together and spending winters in Florida. They enjoyed many happy vacations with their daughter, Lynn, a doctor of chiropractic medicine and presently on the teaching staff of Life University in Marietta, Ga.
Ferne held a Bachelor of Science degree from Bloomsburg State Teachers College. She taught in the Berwick School District for 30 years, retiring in 1993. Ferne served on the Central Susquehanna Community Foundation Advisory Committee, The Berwick Health and Wellness Auxiliary Board, The Carver Hall Advisory Board at Bloomsburg University and the Scholarship Committee of BK Chapter of P.E.O. She held memberships in Beta Epsilon Master Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, The Twentieth Century Delphian Club, The Berwick Historical Society, BK Chapter of P.E.O, PSEA, (life member), NEA Retired and many other auxiliaries and committees. She and her husband gave a scholarship to Northwest High School for a college-bound senior.
Ferne enjoyed volunteering, physical fitness, traveling and playing bridge.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John (Jack) and Faye Soberick; and her brother, John (Jack) Soberick.
Ferne is survived by her husband of 68 years, Dale Krothe; her daughter, Lynn Krothe and her partner, Larrie Smisson; her brother, William M. Soberick and his family; Kim Soberick-Dent and her husband, Chris; Kristi Soberick; Kellie Soberick-Eyer and her husband, Jeff; and Karen Soberick-Daddio; her beloved great-nieces and great-nephews, Mitchell Martin; Grayson Eyer; Anthony, Mia and Gia Daddio; and her sister-in-law, Jane Soberick and her children, Tim Soberick and Amy Diehl. Other in-laws include Donna Krothe-Goobic; Kay Krothe-Wolfe and her husband, Mark; Irene Krothe; Joyce Krothe; and other numerous nephews and nieces.
A visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church, 224 W. Front St., Berwick, with the Rev. Deb Copeland, her pastor, officiating. The funeral service will be livestreamed on Facebook at First Baptist Church Berwick.
Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Walnut Street, Berwick.
The family suggests donations may be made to The First Baptist Church, Berwick.
