Fred J. Buss, 77, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away Monday, Dec. 27, 2021 in Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Twp.
He was born in Wilkes-Barre, a son of the late Leonard and Marion Bray Buss. Fred was a graduate of GAR Memorial High School, Class of 1961, where he was a star football player and wrestler. After high school, Fred attended college at Wichita State on a football scholarship.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed for many years as an insulator with the Heat & Frost Insulators Union, local 38.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Mark Buss, on Oct. 19, 2020; and brother-in-law, Dick Gdovin.
Fred is survived by his soulmate of 41 years, Barbara Siracuse, Swoyersville; his son, Matthew Buss and his wife, Gina, Charlotte, N.C.; daughter-in-law, Carol Buss, Forty Fort; grandson, Luke Buss; step-granddaughter, Kelsey Wolsieffer; sister, Lois Gdovin, Shavertown; brother, Bill Buss and his wife, Vicki, Silver Spring, Md.; nieces and nephews, Diane Flaherty and her husband, Pat; Richard Gdovin and his wife, Debbie; Ross Gdovin and his wife, Jess; Jeremy Buss and his wife; Stacy and Shawn Buss and his wife, Annie.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday from Nat & Gawlas Funeral Home, 89 Park Ave., Wilkes-Barre. The Rev. Charles H. Grube, pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Dallas, will officiate.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from noon to 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Fred's family requests that masks be worn for the visitation and the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Fred's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.

Even though Fred had a nickname of "The Animal", he was the "Gentlest Giant". Always willing to help someone and a smile on his face., constantly.
