Helen Okraszewski Obituary

Helen J. (Fine) Okraszewski, 78, of Pringle died Aug. 14, 2014, surrounded by her loving family at her bedside.

Born Feb. 29, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Julia V. (Olexy) Fine of Plymouth. She graduated from Larksville High School in 1954, where she excelled in academics and basketball.

Helen was a statuesque brunette with blue, sparkling eyes, and modeled in fashion shows.

Our "Oakie" was always a creative soul, and enjoyed making clothing and pottery, drawing and writing poetry, which was published. Her hand-crafted booties and afghans were made with love for her many grandchildren. She also donated her crocheted slippers to staff and patients at local hospitals.

She was employed by Nesbitt Memorial Hospital, where she was an active member of the Nesbitt Employee Activities Committee, in Kingston and Wilkes-Barre General Hospital until her retirement.

She was also an active member of St. Hedwig's Mothers Guild. Over the years, she socialized with her lifelong friends at their monthly get-togethers. When asked her age, Helen would often jokingly say she was a teenager, because she was a Leap Year baby.

She will be missed dearly by her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leonard; sister, Catherine Fine; and grandchild, Bradley Okraszewski.

Surviving are her sisters, Verna Everett, Danville; Claire and her husband, Richard Sawyer, Danville; brother, James Fine and his wife, Maria, New Jersey; daughters, Sue and her husband Edward J. Brennan, Larksville; Sandra Okraszewski and Chino Velasquez, Plymouth; sons, Michael and his wife, Cindy, Pringle; and David, Pringle; grandchildren, Jennifer, Casandra, Alysha, Shannon, Laura, Juliana and Alexandrya; and great-grandchildren, Robbie, Jianna, Jayden, Lily, Beau, Eli and Chloe.

A funeral will take place at Kopicki Funeral Home, 263 Zerby Ave., Kingston, at 9 a.m. Tuesday, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Ignatius Church, 339 N. Maple Ave., Kingston. Interment will be in Chapel Lawn Memorial cemetery, 4115 Memorial Highway, Dallas.

Family and friends may attend a viewing from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Kopicki Funeral Home.

Dear Sue and family,
I am so sorry to hear about your mom. Having spent a lot of time at your house, 40 year ago now, i have so many memories of you and you Mom and family. There was a lot of laughter and crazy times that made it so much fun to be there, plus more snacks and good food than at my house. How many times I walked from Edw to Pringle to hang out together! Or rode my bike. When we were older, you'd pick my up in the orange VW. I'd love to get together or get in touch. My dad sent me the notice from the paper yesterday. My deepest condolences to you.
Fondly,
Josette (Bryden) Luciano

My deepest sympathy to the whole family. I worked with sandy for three years and on every lunch break you could hear sandy talking to someone on the phone and as time passed I said sandy who were you on the phone with she said my mom. So I would walk pass and say hi mom and she would say hi back. It was such a pleasure to see the face behind all my hellos for years at Sandra's baby shower. May god give the whole family strength in there time of mourning.

Dear Sandy and family,
I am so saddened by your mom's passing. She was a wonderful lady and was always so kind. I will always remember her.
May god reach down, embrace her with his love and carry her home. May she be free of pain and at ease in her heart. May god bless you and your family with strength and his love through this sorrowing time. Peace be with you all.

To the Okraszewski Family:

Please accept my deepest sympathies at the loss of your Mother. I worked with Dave for the last 15 yrs. and I knew of her declining health. Take comfort in knowing she is in Heaven watching over all of her family. I will keep you in my prayers, as I have done for the last year and may Jesus walk with you as you begin to heal from your Mother's passing.
