James Inglis Obituary

James "Scotty" Inglis, 87, peacefully passed away on Sunday, Oct. 29, 2017.

Preceded in death by his wife Marie, Jim is survived by his sister, Ruby Woodley of England, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Affectionately known by many friends as Scotty, Jim was born in Motherwell, Lanarkshire County, Scotland. Son of Alexander and Rebecca Inglis, Jim's siblings were Jessie, Alexander, and Ruby. He moved with his family to Corby, England, at a young age, where he went to work on the railroad at age 14. At age 18, he joined the British Army, serving under King George VI in South East Asia.

In 1954, Jim came to America and joined the United States Army. He served with the 11th Airborne Division as a paratrooper in Germany. While In Germany, he was the captain of the soccer team for the Division. Following his military service, Jim worked at various resorts from New England to Florida, where he met his future wife of 51 years, Marie English. He was a loyal caretaker for Marie in her later years as she suffered from dementia.

Jim worked for years at Muskin Pools. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, as well as having a pint at the pub with his buddies. He was a member in good standing of the L.A.N.I. Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6325.

Jim cultivated a bountiful garden each year, and generously shared his vegetables. He also spent much of his retirement years playing billiards or golf, which he also like to watch on TV.

Jim proudly carried the following newspaper clipping in his wallet: "Inglis aces No. 3 at Tamiment. James (Scotty) Inglis registered a hole-in-one on the No. 3 121 yard hole using a 6-iron while playing in the Robert Seibert's Over the Hill Gang Tournament at Tamiment. He was playing with long time partners, Stan Wychock, John Washney and Tony Rusnock."

Jim will be missed by family and friends. Per Jim's wishes, there will be no services. Arrangements are by E. Blake Collins Funeral Home. Condolences can be sent at www.eblakecollins.com.

I knew Jim and Marie for many years at St.Elizabeth church. Marie was so active in all the activities there until her illness. ..and Jim was hèr constant companion at every gathering and then her devoted caregiver. Jim was always so pleasant to talk to...I loved to tease him about his delightful accent. We can all rejoice in their glorious reunion together forever in heaven. They will be remembered in my prayers in this month of All Souls.
